Need clothing advice for Yosemite/Monterey end of June
What will the temperature ranges be like in the Yosemite and Monterey areas at the end of June, beginning of July?
(I'm a South Floridian with thin blood!) I'm prepared for the heat (hiking in Yosemite, etc.) but how cool will it get at night?
It's possible I'll be out a bit at night in Yosemite (but not in the high country) -- not camping or anything; we're staying in Mariposa.
I had checked weather.com for average temps in Monterey this time of year, but in speaking with someone there to book my hotel, I was told that in the past couple of years it's been MUCH hotter than normal. (I had expected 60s at night, but was told it's much warmer than that.)
Any advice on what to pack?
Thanks!
Carol

Pack layers so that you will be prepared for whatever the weather is.You shouldn't need more than a sweater, long pants, and a light jacket for the chilly weather. Bring some short sleeved shirts and shorts or light-weight pants too. Layering is important because it can be chilly in the morning, warm in the afternoon, and chilly again in the evenning.
I would prepare for temperatures as low as the 50s in the evennings in both Monterey and Yosemite. During the day time I would prepare for temperatures in the high 80s in Yosemite and high 70s in Monterey. Rain is very unlikely in both locations.
Temperatures in past years can have little or no relationship to temperatures this year. For example, this year we had a really hot spring - temperatures into the 90s in Feb and March without much rain. Last year we had a really wet spring with record-setting rainfall through April.
So just layer up and you will be ready for whatever the weather is.

Last year we went to Yosemite & Monterey in the middle of June. Both places can be cool but the places in between can be quite hot. When we left Yosemite it was 65 degrees but crossing the state the temps were above 95 degrees. As we got closer to the coast the temps dropped to 65.

Agree w/all of the above! We first arrived in Monterey in June and found it quite chilly--as in, cotton sweater and light jacket. There were warmer days, and it was always warmer in downtown Monterey and Carmel than, say, out at Asilomar beach. So yes, be prepared for temp. fluctuations!

For Yosemite, think polartec. For evenings, that is. If you're camping, it does get chilly at night, although last May/June was an exception. Days get pretty hot, so you'll need jeans and shorts for both.
