mistake or not
We're coming down to key west in feb for a wedding and rented a house, about 4-6 blks from duval street, for a week. it will be a family event and there will be a few kids, from 2yrs to 11yrs old. my question is are we making a mistake staying in key west for the whole week and is is ok for the kids too? i'm starting to hear bad things about key west , gays, beggars ,etc. people in general don't bother us but is this place safe? thanks for any info and also is there enough for a family of 3 to do for a week there without getting riped off? thanks for any info

Please -
Don't go at all. Or at least leave the kids at home.
There are gays and beggars in any tourist area - I guess I should say in ALL areas.
What makes Key West seem so more intimidating than anywhere else? I was there in November. While I stopped for a slice of pizza at a small restaurant a radio station at the place next door was interviewing 3 drag queens. It was all a lot of fun and two girls from Nebraska stopped to talked to them and take pictures.
The whole attitude - "is there enough for a family of 3 to do for a week there without getting riped off?"
Key West is a wonderful place. Maybe you should all stay home.
RE the kids - I'm guessing you think that gays are pedophiles. Actually most are heterosexual and more likely than not - family members.
You need a lot of education before they let you vacation anywhere!

IT does get boring there after a while.Unless you like to snorkle, fish and, drink its a very small town and its impossible to find a nice beach.Im going to south florida in a week.theres more to do.but have fun whatever you do or youll reget it later.
