Another hamptons question--we wanted to go to EH midweek rather than the weekend in the hopes that it wouldn't be too crazy, but we just figured out that the week we're thinking of going to EH is the week of the Bridgehampton Classic. if we stay away from bridge and south do you think it will be ok? or do you think that's a bad week to go? TIA!

Well....you do have to pass through Bridge to get to East. If you can drive at an off time (like 10 pm) you'd be ok. Ofcourse it's crowded anyway at that time b/c it's the last hurrah of the summer. It's not just the horse show but all the kids out of camp by then etc. If you can do the trip earlier, it will be a bit better but this summer has been over the top anyway. If you have to go to any of the high profile restaurants, book now if they'll let you.

Actually I won't be going through Bridge-- coming the orient pt- shelter island way. The timing can't be changed b/c of my birthday. I'm thinking maybe i should rethink the trip altogether though- i hate crazy crowds! Thanks again!

I forgot you're coming from Ct. That shouldn't be too bad. If you take 114 from Sag Harbor, you come out in East Hampton almost at those inns. If you decide you don't want to deal with the crowds, what about the North Fork? Jedediah Hawkins Inn is wonderful food and beautiful rooms. http://www.jedediahhawkinsinn.com/index01.php

My DH has never really experienced the Hamptons and really wants to go there, as do I. I spent alot of time there in my 20s and early 30s. I'm hoping if we go midweek and stay in EH area, then maybe it won't be too too bad crowd wise... (fingers crossed!). we'll have to make a decision soon! Thanks again!
