Marriott Magnificent Mile or Renaissance

We are spending a long weekend in Chicago and deciding on either staying at Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile or Renaissance Chicago Hotel. I am leaning towards staying at the Marriott Downtown. Does anyone have any opinions?

I stayed a long weekend at the Marriott Chicago Downtown - and it was a good location for us - we flew in for the
American Girl doll store.
The rooms where a little dated - we had a GREAT view of the Lake though and we were upgraded to a suite which was nice. We walked every place.
One thing I would do differently is arrange a car service to pick us up at the airport - it was only slightly more expensive then a taxi.

The Renaissance is right on the river, just a few blocks from the Martiott (I'm not going to tell you how many because I apparently don't count right).

It's also just a couple of blocks from the Blue Line stop at Clark and Lake, so you could very easily take the El in from the airport. Especially if you can get a river view room, I think it's a nicer property.

The Marriott is tired and getting a cab to go anywhere is crazy. For some reason, the area right in front of the hotel is a huge bottleneck of cabs and trucks.

Out of those two, I would pick the Renaissance. My favorite locations in Chicago are all on the River. You are so much more Central to either North or South, IMHO.
