Lodging Whitefish, Montana
Has anyone stayed at The Best Western Rocky Mt. Inn in Whitefish? We will be arriving late at night by train and we needed to make reservations at a hotel in Whitefish for the night. Would appreciate any suggestions?

It's the Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge and I stayed there for 2 nights about 5 years ago. It's on the main road in Whitefish with a few restaurants and I believe a small shopping center across the street. Not really a "lodge", but a very nice hotel and certainly nice for a Best Western (perhaps one of the best BWs I have stayed in). Seemed new at the time and was very clean. It was a bit of a ways from downtown Whitefish which I imagine is where the train station is, so you will need a taxi. Don't know if the BW offers transport.

The Best Western looks reallly nice (still) - we were in Whitefish on 6/17/03. Also, there is a new looking Holiday Inn Express. If you want a really nice B&B that wasn't too expensive ($140) the Hidden Moose Lodge was great. It's a little further from downtown (1.5 miles?) though.

As bizarre as the name is, the Cheap Sleep motel in Whitefish is excellent! It is on the main route. right next to Holiday Inn Express. Rates are about 50-60, rooms are excellent, lobby is like home, swimming pool, hot tub, morning coffee, friendly staff. We stayed there 2 weeks ago and loved it.

Don't stay there, we were there (BW Rocky MT Lodge, Whitefish) 2 weeks ago. The thing's made of plywood. Every time anyone moved on our floor our floor shook. About time we all got together and refused to accept this kind of awful building, I think.
Staff were pleasant though

By now you've probably already been to Whitefish, but anyway. The Pine Lodge (just up the road a bit from Holiday Inn Express) was really nice. Stayed on the 3rd floor, it had knotty pine slanted cathedral ceiling and a nice sized balcony overlooking the river and pool. They have an indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzi. Friendly folk and a free internet access terminal in lobby. Got a good AAA rate as well.
I agree that Whitefish is a great place, and we were most pleasantly surprised. Great food at Buffalo Cafe (breakfast/lunch) and Mambo Italiano (dinner, try the minestrone), burgers at Bulldog Saloon. Most places had pretty good wines at affordable prices. We wish we had planned to spend a bit more time there.
