Lodging in Grand Marais and ? re Bearskin Lodge
We need a place to stay in Grand Marais for just one night. Any recommendations? What can anyone tell me about Grand Marais. Any restaurant recommendations? We then have reservations at Bearskin Lodge for five nights. Does anyone know if it is nice?

We stayed at the Aspen Lodge one night in Grand Marais last year. It was OK but shortstaffed at the time. I think the Best Western would have been a better choice. We ate at Sven and Ole's pizza. It is a very casual place. Good food and rugged atmosphere. (alot of the customers looked like they had just spent a week out in the Boundary Waters and were thoroughly enjoying their pizza). I have heard Bearskin Lodge is nice but have never been there.

I assume you mean grand marais, MN...as opposed to GM, MI ?? I LOVE Grand Marais, MN. It is a lovely little harbor town. Eat at the Angry Trout for something different and delicious. There's also a nice little bar right across from the harbor marina with good food. Sven and Oly's is a *tradition. Stop in the donut shop too. Shop at the wonderful Ben Franklin and the Trader's place on the waterfront. All the shops are worth going into. Go see Nanaboujou if you have time, a little farther north on Lake Superior. There is SO much to see and do in the area.....especially in the Superior National Forest. I find myself drawn to Grand Marais every year.

The bearskin Lodge is very remote, but the most private, homey and quaint resort I have ever been to. The staff are very courtious and polite. If the Bearskin is not right for you, I would stay at Lutsen Resort's Condominiums. Do not stay at the Lutsen Sea Villas, or the main lodge, because of poor upkeep. I have stayed at the Lutsen Condos twice, and they are very modern and well maintained. Most of the Condos are under 5 years old.
