JW Marriott Ihilani Resort
We will be visiting Oahu next August and have decided to stay at the Marriott Ihilani for 5 days. Did not want the crowds in Waikiki. Could anyone offer any info on this resort and possibly a itinerary for 5 days? Thanks!

We were there last June, and stayed for a week. The resort is beautiful, and the beach there is wonderful. While we were there, we alternated between sightseeing and relaxing at our resort. On day we spent touring the southern loop of the island. I'd choose days exploring for weekdays, when the locals are working. Then you'll have the beaches to yourself. While on that part of the island, we also saw Byodo In Temple. The grounds there are beautiful, and surrounding views are breathtaking. We found a good place for a box lunch for only $5.00, inlcuding the drink! Another day away from the resort was spent at Pearl Harbor and the aloha flea market. That would need to be on a weekend. The flea market isn't open every day. The last suggeston for touring the island is heading up toward the north shore. The beaches up there are also beautiful, and if you want you can make a side trip at the Dole Plantation. They have a great pineapple whip.
While at the resort, make a reservation for Azul. It is their best restaurant. Also, the service there was top notch. There is also a really good restaurant at the golf course. I believ the name of that one is Niblick's.
Enjoy the trip!

If I recall correctly, it is about 25 min., depending on time of day. The consierge services are excellent at the hotel, and most of the people staffed there are good at covering all the variations you might encounter. Their advice proved very helpful regarding our trip to Pearl Harbor.

I get door to door from the hotel to the Hertz checkin in somewhere between 20 and 25 miuntes. Its farther than Waikiki, but all high speed. Just for reference, I'd say 15 minutes or less to the airport from the Renaissance Waikiki.

Thanks for the info. We actually will be coming in from Kuaui late Friday evening just to be safe since we're returning to the mainland on a 8am flight out of Honolulu.
Anyone know of a clean, inexpensive place near the airport?

Jack: I have stayed in a placed called the Honolulu Airport Hotel when a flight got cancelled that was right outside the airport. It is in the neigborhood of $100/night. I think there was a Best Western on Nimitz near the airport as well that was probably a bit cheaper.
Kelly: It isn't a very good area for restaurants. If you require "nice", I'd say there is nothing in the immediate area though others may have different standards than I. There are a number of inexpensive Asian stripmall kinda places nearby that I like, but not a lot of high end stuff outside the hotel.

Niblick's restaurant at the golf course down the road from the hotel was very good when we were there, and there is a town just up the road, heading toward the airport that had a restaurant one of the locals recommended, but since we never ended up going, I don't have the information on it. I'm sure you can ask when you're there. That's how we got the names. They were extremely helpful.
