Are you thinking of Waikiki or somewhat more rural like the north shore or something?

Also a general price range is always helpful when asking for hotel recommendations here.

I thought Turtle Bay Resort had a romantic feel, especially at sunset. It has beautiful views of the coastline and is more secluded than Waikiki but still only an hour or so away when you want the tourist attractions. We really loved the place, but there have been a few posters on here with less than satisfactory experiences...guess it's all subjective.

I recommend the Marriott Ihilani, which is in the Ko'Olina area, which is on the west side of the island. Very quiet, beautiful lagoons in which to swim, and only 30 min from Honolulu and Waikiki. It's like it's own little island within the island. We LOVE it there. Have a great trip!

I don't know what your budget is but the Royal Hawaiian is spectacular with lots of history.

Honolulu is filled with history! Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum, Aloha Tower, Mission Houses Museum, Maritime Museum, Pearl Harbor, Chinatown--all fascinating--and just a few of many wonderful places in this great city. A beautiful hotel filled with history (including marvellous historical tours) is Sheraton Moana Surfrider. They also have a famous, beautiful courtyard, under an old banyan tree, on Waikiki Beach, just down from the above mentioned Royal Hawaiian, another wonderful old hotel. These two were the first large resort hotels on Waikiki Beach. The Moana celebrated its 100th anniversary a few years ago, and has been lovingly restored.

We were at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore over Christmas and even with our two teens along we found it very romantic...they have so much space there that it's easy to wander and find yourself looking at this wonderful view by yourself. The girls took surfing lessons at the next bay to the west (you can walk there) and we were one of 3 parties there on this beautiful large beach. We were very happy with both the service and the rooms and would love to go back there. They have a great spa too offering couples massages, sunset massages in a tent out near the surf, etc. Enjoy your planning.

For my 2cents worth, the Marriott Ihilani is secluded and beautiful, but for "romantic" I have to go with the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. It is so beautiful, and on the verandah, in the evenings there is a piano serenade. Sitting there right on the beach, looking at the ocean, listening to soft music is soooo romantic.
