Is end of March a good time to ski in Vail

Hi, planning to ski last week of March in Vail, will the snow still be powder snow or will it be too warm. When is the best time to go skiing in Vail? Thanks

March and April are usually when we get the most snow but we are currently in a pretty bad drought. We did get some snowfall along the front range for about a week but for the last week the weather has very nice, it reached a high of around 72degrees. We are supposed to get a little snow Monday and Tuesday but it would be hard to tell if we will get a ton of it by the end of the month. Hopefully summit county will get some but don't be surprised if your skiing in very sunny conditions. Not sure how much they have up there right now, I am sure someone else will know.

Spring up here is totally unpredictable. We used to say that anyone who tries to predict the weather is either a tourist or a fool.

Right now, they are predicting a big storm moving in from Cali for this week but who knows.

The best time to ski in Vail is probably late season, as it is with most ski areas. Since Vail has a lower base elevation, their late season arrives earlier than it does in Summit County.

I hope Vail gets the snow, because I'll be skiing there later this week!

End of March is the best time I think. Most of my best ski days have been late March and early April. No wind, more snow, sunny skies, warmer days, and the ice packed snow is loosened up. Enjoy!

Its dumping now!! While you can never predict the weather or snow conditions, March is generally a great month for skiing. Two weeks ago we had 18 inches of powder over night with 2 feet on top, last week it was 60 degrees and spring corn snow. Either way, great fun. Might be a powder day tomorrow. b

Late March is the best time to ski - great combination of deep snow conditions and mild temperatures. We are now getting hit with a major major snowstorm in the Denver area. They are predicting between 16 and 45 inches from this storm, more in the mountains.

Unfortunately, the ski season is over, but March is usually the best. Keep in mind for next year. Best bet is to fly to Vail Airport and take a taxi to Vail. Skip the car, you don't need it. I found High Mountain Taxi on the web. www.hmtaxi.com They were great. Enjoy Vail or Beaver Creek next year.

Only Mother Nature can truthfully answer your question. This year bad, years past have been mixed. Traditionally, March is good month but I always go in Late Jan/February since you can't always count on Mother Nature to cooperate.

We used to ski middle to late March often when our kids were in high school and it was usually really good. What may happen is that the bottom of the mountain may get a bit slushy later in the day but the top (colder) will still be very cold and good snow conditions. It was fine for the strong kids to push the slush out of the way--we finally (parents) began finishing our day at mid-mountain and taking the gondola down, for our own safety.
