Hilton Head vs. Saint Simons Island Beaches
In general, which has the better beach for swimming, sunbathing, etc? I am planning a May vacation with my wife and baby girl. We have enjoyed Hilton Head in the past but have the option of Saint Simon's Island this year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I believe that the beach at St Simons is similiar to that of Tybee and Jekyl - many sharp shell pieces - with a greater threat of undertow in the water than is usually experienced at HHI.Esp with a child, I would recommend going back to HHI.

Hilton Head has much wider and longer beaches. It is a jewel of planned development, at least the plantations are. There are far more manmade entertainment and dining choices on Hilton Head also.
The beach at the King & Prince, St. Simons' finest hotel, is a sliver at high tide. (As an aside, Jekyll has many wide beaches with tall protective dunes. While Sea Island is our favorite barrier island, Jekyll has the best beaches of the developed Georgia "Golden Isles"). St. Simons has beautiful, expansive marshes and a real beach town area-though it's becoming more toney by the day as undeveloped beach property vanishes.
