Help With NYC Hotel For My Family - Is There Such a Thing as a Comfortable Sofa Bed?

Hello,

My family of 4 visited NYC several years ago and loved staying at the Lucerne Hotel in the wonderful UWS neighborhood. We will be returning this summer but my children are now too old to be sharing a bed. Rates for two rooms are a bit steep for us. Does anyone know if any of the suite hotels have comfortable sofa beds? Also, are any of these hotels in interesting areas with good restaurants like the UWS?

Thanks for your help!

I think comfortable sofabed is an oxmoron. My parents tried very hard to buy a high end one with a good mattress, and they put an egg crate mattress on top of that. For one person (which soumd like our situation), it is barely tolerable. For two, ugh!

We pull mattress of and put it on floor. Make sure you return it to sofa bed in AM, as I do not think it is reasonable to ask housekeeping staff to return it to bed. Much more comfortable on floor. It is the springs under the mattress that poke thru and make it uncomfortable.

The 1 bedroom suites at the Blakely hotel have bedrooms with 2 double beds and a day bed for 1 in the living room rather than a sofabed.

The Best Western Hospitality hotel has some 2 bedroom 1 bath suites that are more affordable than 2 bedroom suites in other hotels.

Funny you should post this. Was reading Travel & Leisure at the gym this a.m. and they recommended this NYC B&B in Carnegie Hill. I hadn't heard of it before, so I looked it up. The "apartment" might suit your needs. Don't know what the rates are.

If you aren't familiar with this neighborhood, Carnegie Hill is a lovely neighborhood, home to Woody Allen, former home to Katie Couric, etc. Lots of upscale private schools and some good restaurants in the area. You won't be disappointed.

Actually, that reminds me some b & b's might also work. Have a look at 1871house.com Their Lexington suite might be fun for you.

The one bedrooms at The Salisbury have two queens in the bedroom and the living room has a very comfortable sleeper sofa.
