NYC hotel room for 4 adults-advise?

Hello! We are planning a trip to NYC for May. It will be me, hubby, my mother and father. Ideally, we'd like to get a suite or apartment-style room or accommdation that will sleep four. Any advise?

I am going to give the same advice I give no matter what the destination is ... get two hotel rooms. With 4 adults you need two bathrooms and privacy. Unless you pay mega-bucks you won't get two bathrooms in a suite. I'd prefer a less expensive hotel and getting 2 rooms. Of course, this is just my opinion, but no matter how much you get along with parents too much closeness is not a good thing on a vacation.

I've stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hill. They are converted apartments (tiny kitchenette)and some units have two bedrooms.

Strongly second Lori's advice.

The Salisbury Hotel has two bedroom apartments with two bathrooms.

If you go to affinia.com you can get info on a group of moderately priced and fairly well-regarded hotels that are all suite - with a variety of configurations (studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom) to fit most needs.

However, I must admit I agree with the posters above. Have never understood the need to squash 4 people in 1 room - unless 2 are small kids that can;t be left alone. Who wouldn;t want some privacy - as well as their own bathroom? (To tell you the truth the rare times I travel on business with the beau we always go for a room with 2 separate baths - so we're not falling over each other trying to get ready at the same time.)

If you want a budget hotel : Beacon Hotel(Upper west side)

Middle prices : Excelsior (upper west side) or Flatotel(midtown)

More expensive : Essex, Sofitel,...

One more vote for getting 2 rooms.

Something I have learned about hotels in NYC... the rooms are often small. With so many people in a small area, hotles had the need to maximize the use of their space. Therefore, it is very common to get a room in NYC that is smaller than you would normall expect. Sure there are hotels with larger rooms, but I have found they are the exception to the rule. Even a NYC room that is labeled a "suite" may be smaller than you are hoping for.

Get the two rooms and you should be happiest. Maybe the hotel even has rooms that have the joining door. At the very least they can probably give you rooms next to each other or across the hall from each other.

I just returned from my first visit to NYC and we had a great stay at the Flatotel. This hotel is located in midtown on W. 52nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Ask for a 2 bedroom unremodeled suite. They are former apartments that are now hotel rooms. Everything was clean and the room was HUGE! There is a king bed in one of the bedrooms and a full bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The second bedroom has a queen bed and another bathroom with a shower. The showers are wonderful! Water is hot and fantastic pressure. Our suite was in a corner overlooking broadway. The suite is "unremodeled", meaning it needs updating, but the location is great, and I can't tell you how nice it was to have a full kitchen, living room and dinette at our disposal! Plenty of room to spread out and definetly not like a typical hotel stay. If you are looking for the Ritz, this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for a clean hotel that is in a great location with a friendly staff and lots of room, check it out! Our price was $669.00 per night, which was about the same if not a bit cheaper than getting two rooms in NYC. www.flatotel.com

Strongly agree with the other posters...get 2 rooms or a 2 bedroom suite..big bucks
We stayed at the gorgeous Benjamin Hotel across from the Waldorf in Midtown and it was lovely.
We had a one bedroom suite and was perfect.

The Doubletree Guest Suites has very spacious 2 room suite---esp for NYC!!--LR w/pull-out sofa and separate BR w/King bed. Only one bath, but a large one. If you are committed to sharing, this may be a good choice. A very nice hotel in a great tourist locale. We just stayed there in June and everything was sparkling clean and looked like it had just been refurbished.

Wow trippin..how great is that with your daughter..
We just loved this place..when we were guests on RR Show, she put us up in this lovely suite and the staff was so nice..
Make sure you ring up for the
'pillow concierge'..free of charge and they have so many different types.
The Benjamin is in a perfect location.. the calamari and drinks at the bar are a really good choice when you arrive around dinnertime.
We had a wonderful time at the Campbell Apartment for drinks at Grand Central Station (no tennis shoes) and we loved the Oyster Bar too..sat next to Capt. Picard of Star Trek..great guy.
Have fun!

As a rule, Manhattan hotel rooms are small. Many "budget" rooms are tiny.

IF you choose to book "one room," be sure to ask the square footage and whether or not it's appropriate for 4 adults.

Better options are a 2 bedroom unit or 2 rooms, of course.
