Help with accomodations Mendocino area

My family is heading to SF from Seattle and I'm trying to find a place around Mendocino to spend a few nights in August. Most everything I've seen has way too many crocheted doilies. Is there a more rustic place to stay? It doesn't necessarily have to be in Mendocino, but I would like to be near the ocean. Thanks!

My family thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Little River Inn, just south of Mendocino. It isn't rustic, but it is tasteful. It is right next to a State Park that has trails in it and a beach, which is just across the road. They also have tennis courts. The people who run the Inn make you feel very welcome.

The Little River Inn is very nice! You might also want to check out www.mendocinopreferred.com for lodging in the same general area. It is all very well done, and they have something for everybody--from a romantic spot for two to a family-gathering place!

catherine, where did you decide to stay? We may visit Mendocino this summer. I haven't been there yet but am looking for good lodging.

Have you heard of the Agate Cove Inn? ***kim***

Hi Catherine,
We returned to Mendo for the second time this year. We had dinner at the Little River Inn and were a bit disappointed. Everything is near the ocean...question is, hoew much will you sacrifice? LOL. Please consider the Brewery Gulch Inn. Close to town, but rustic charm. Amazing food and a great staff. No doilies. The owner arrives at cocktail hour and the appetizers are divine. You will love this property! Check tripadvisor.com for some reviews.

Kim, I really liked Alegria. We stayed in a cottage (Cove Cottage)which was perched above a hill overlooking Big River and the ocean. It was gorgeous! They have a hot tub adjacent to the room where you can sit among the flowers , under the stars, and hear the roar of the ocean. We were pretty wicked there! ;-)
