Help plan trip from Durham to Myrtle Beach to Charleston to Charlotte
Hi,
We're attending a wedding in Durham in April then will try to see some of NC & SC before flying home from Charlotte. Depending on the weather, I was thinking of going to Myrtle Beach for two days then Charleston for 2 days then to Charlotte. If the weather isn't right for Myrtle Beach, looking for other suggestions. Traveling with 2 teens.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

The weather is usually nice in April, but the ocean may be cold for swimming. Charleston is beautiful but busy in spring so you may want to reserve a place sooner rather than later. I think you'll enjoy it.

Rather than Myrtle Beach why not go some place more attractive like Litchfield just south of Myrtle. It would be a beautiful time for Charleston, as Sue says, and the azaleas and dogwood will be in full bloom.
You could easily spend all 4 of your days in Charleston. If you wanted another interesting thing to do in NC you could spend a day in Winston Salem and see Old Salem, or you could spend a day touring the potteries around Seagrove and then head to the beach.
Another interesting town and on the coast is Wilmington. You could head that way, and then down to Charleston.

There are some beautiful places. Look at the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort site. Starrs has recommended a particular Hampton Inn at MB which looked nice from the site but MB is just such gridlock and Wave stores!!

I agree with Gretchen, do not stay along the "Grand Strand" in the North if you can help it. That area has become really run down. If you are looking for history and good food, I suggest Charleston. You can stay over the Ravenal bridge in Mount Pleasant if you can't find anything available downtown. Downtown can be pricey for lodging. If you want a resort, I suggest Wild Dunes in Charleston. Charleston is beautiful in the Spring, especially the area around the Battery (not to be missed).

Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time in Myrtle Beach if you only have 2 days for each. Spend all 4 in Charleston. The plantations are beautiful, carriage rides entertaining and food is wonderful. Just my opinion but I visit Charleston every year, Myrtle Beach only if required. Though with your teens they would enjoy Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle.

Agree with forgetting MB. However, I'd suggest Wrightsville as an alternative. At that time of year Airlie gardens should be well worth seeing. http://airliegardens.org/
