Help! Family traveling to Florida in March...Where to go?

Hello-

My husband, 2.5-year old daughter and 4 month-old son are traveling to Florida in March for a week. We are flying into Tampa and are trying to decide where to stay. We are looking for a great beach where we can rent an oceanfront 2-bedroom condo. We enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, taking walks on the beach, etc. and spending time relaxing on a white-sand beach. Normally we eat in the condo for breakfast and lunch but enjoy nice restaurants for dinner.

We are trying to decide between Sanibel Island, Marco Island or Siesta Key/Longboat Key beaches.

Where would you recommend and why? We are open to driving up to 3 hours from Tampa to get to our destination.

Absolute musts:
-Oceanfront condo rentals
-Outdoor activities
-Beautiful beaches
-Great restaurants

Thank you so much for your help!

Why Tampa?
Why not go farther south?
While you may get nice weather in Florida, it can be chilly in March so the farher south you go, the better chance you have of having warm weather.

For condo rentals, try

www.tug2.net

The Longboat Key Club is nice. We have stayed in the 2BR oceanfront suite.

You could look in Ft. Myers Beach also. Marco is very nice, as is Naples. But the above poster is correct--it "could" be cold, but the beach and sun will still be out! I think you just have to decide and start looking for a place. Of course, it won't be "oceanfront". ;o)

Marco is more than 3 hours from Tampa.

Sanibel, otherwise your best bet,is right at your margin for driving.

Both are easy from RSW (Ft Myers).

Longboat is easy from Tampa but I would be surprised if you have an easy time finding a waterfront condo this late, but I hope I am wrong.

Fly into Ft Meyers and stay in Sanibel, the water might be chilly, maybe not for you but us natives think so, it is laid back, friendly, great food, beachs are fantastic, slow paced, very bike friendly, love it!

Siesta Key! The nicest beach of the ones you mentioned. There are alot of nice but casual restaurants that would be suitable for your young family. There are many, many condo communities to choose from, right on the beach. We like Siesta Dunes. I don't think you'll find biking on Siesta Key though.
