Going to Florida
Hello;
I have a few questions. I will be in Florida from 10/5 - 10/13. From 10/5 - 10/9 I will be in Ft Lauderdale for a convention, so I do not plan on doing much. My wife will join me 10/9 until 10/13. I hope to go to Miami beach and Key West. I plan to be in Key West 10/9-1011 and the rest in MB. My questions are:
What is one thing that I should do/visit at FLL.
What should I do/visit in Miami Beach. Is key Biscaine close to MB, what to do there?.
What to do/visit in KW?
We are ~30 yrs old. We would like to visit some shops, bars/night clubs, good restaurants. We are into Latin things so what to do there? Maybe take a boat ride. We do not like too trendy places, but not dumps either.
I thank any suggestions or comments
Thanks
Fernando

My initial thought is that KW is too far from FLL and Miami for your itinerary to be practical unless you're flying at least one way. You could fly to KW on the 9th, spend two nights in KW, drive to Miami on the 11th (which will take most of the day). Is that your plan?
If so you don't want to plan anything too elaborate in KW. Mostly just walk around to enjoy the scene especially in the evenings. You could take a daytime or sunset cruise on one of the nice sailboats. KW is not very "Latin" though there are a couple of Cuban and Bahamian restaurants.
Not sure what people do in Key Biscayne except take the glass-bottom boat tour out to the coral reef.
In Miami Beach you definitely want to concentrate on the South Beach area.

In Miami Beach, including South Beach which is a part of it, main attaction is the beach. There are a lot of water sports including fishing and snorkeling, scuba diving etc and other sports like golf, tennis etc.
Then you have in South Beach the people watching, lots of side walk cafes, mostly in Lincoln , and Ocean Drive . You have a very active night
scene, lots of restaurants and night clubs with lots of ambiance .
There is some art related activities,
in the Design Area , like art galleries, restaurants. There are museums in different areas of Greater Miami.
You also have some classic tourist attractions like Parrot Jungle in a new place near South Beach, the
Fairchild Garden, the Spanish Monastery, a real XII century monastery brought piece by piece from Spain and rebuilt in North Miami, Vizcaya and Gardens etc.
Nearby Everglades is a fascinating experience. Airboats rides, and much more in there.
There are also some art going experiences like Opera, depending on the time of year, Ballet . , music, theatre and also depending of time of year, Boadway Musicals. Good luck.

In Ft Lauderdale, take the Water Taxi to Riverwalk and Las Olas Blvd. Both are great places to stroll along, visit the shops and stop for a drink and a meal. I love just driving by there whenever I'm in the area. And the best part is that you don't need to find a parking space!
Have fun!

For your short length of stay after the conference, I would pick one or the other but not both. You would spend most of your time in transit even if you are flying (airport times, security, yadda, yadda, yadda). Since you will be at a great beach for a bit, go for Key West.
On the other hand, I think South Beach has the better nightlife and since you like Cuban things, it has Little Havana. Geographically, Miami Beach is a barrier island to the mainland. Biscayne Bay is the body of water that separates Miami from Miami Beach. Miami Beach is divided into North Beach, Mid Beach, and South Beach. Miami proper also has very pretty beaches.
