I have to go to Miami for a conference in June and convinced my husband to come along with our 3 year old child. When I tell some of my child's mothers that we're going there, the common reaction seems to bequot;Fort Lauderdale is much better, especially for a little one." The conference is in Wyndham Miami Beach Resort, and I read on tripadvisor this particular hotel is kind of out of the way. So....I'm wondering..did I make a mistake in convincing the rest of the family to come along? Will it be better if my husband rent a car and take our kid to Fort Lauderdale? What's so special about Fort Lauderdale?

Miami Beach is a wonderful location.
I think you'd have a good time. If you find you're not, you could always rent a car and drive to Ft Lauderdale, but there's so much to do in Miami, I think you'll be fine.

Ft.Lauderdale has a nicer beach than that specific area of Miami Beach however, it is still a great area.

If you are supposed to be in Miami, it would be a waste of time and energy for your husband to make the trek to FLL.

I spend a lot of time in South Florida and have no idea why mothers are telling you FLL is better for a three year old. I'm guessing they have not spent time in Miami.

Putting things in perspective for you, on a scale of 1-10, the beach in FLL is a 9.5 and the beach in Miami is a 9.0.

You will need a rental car in that area however. Nothing is within walking distance and traffic is too heavy to walk. There is a boardwalk that runs along the ocean that goes all the way to the point in South Beach. You can walk the boardwalk to South Beach but bring a stroller. It is a two mile walk.

PS. The Wyndham Miami Beach is a gorgeous hotel. Join Wyndham by Request and hope for an upgrade.

A 3yr old child is not going to know the difference between one place or the other. If it's happy, it's happy. If it's cranky, well, it won't matter where it is or what you do, it will be cranky. Been there and done that! Make it easy on your husband and don't worry about trying to take the child to Fort Lauderdale.
