Getting from Penn Station to JFK via subway
I know that I can take the subway from Penn to JFK but once I walk out of Penn what direction or street corner should I go to in order to find the right subway? I need to save some money and want to take the subway but am terrified of getting lost. Can anyone help me? It would be greatly appreciated.

Don't leave Penn Station - the subway you need is right underneath. Just look for the A train...take it in the downtown direction. It's about an hour ride...bring something to read!
Once you get to the JFK airport station, you'll have to wait for the shuttle bus (free) to take you to the terminals. Make sure the shuttle bus is going to the terminal you want. I'm not sure if each bus stops at all terminals.
Good luck!

You want an A train - follow the signs. Station will be on the 8th Ave side of Penn Station. You want to take the A train DOWNTOWN towards Brooklyn. Take the A train going to Far Rockaway. DO NOT TAKE THE A TRAIN GOING TO LEFFERTS BLVD.

The A train will take you from JFK to 34th St, and the 1,2,3, train is available there as well. It depends on where you are going in the city, which train will get you there.
Let us know your hotel in the city and we can tell you the most direct route.

Better Clarification.....Take a downtown A Far Rockaway train, not a downdown A Lefferts Boulevard train. They operate on the same platform. Take the train to the 'Howard Beach' station. JFK airport might not be mentioned. Then take the free Port Authority bus to the airport. Cost $1.50.
