Germaine's Luau / Oahu

Has anyone gone to Germaine's Luau? Would you recommend it and/or how does it compare to Lahaina's luau?

I can't answer your question, but I'm bringing your question back to the top, so maybe someone will see it and give you their opinion. Hate to see an unanswered question disappear off of page one!

I have gone and I did enjoy it. Now please keep in mind this is the only luau I have ever been to.

The food was average and the "show" entertaining. It is easy to meet a lot of nice people there because almost everyone is excited and just happy to be in Hawaii.
It was an easy choice for me since I usually stay at the JW Marriott Ko Olina which is right next door.
I say go and enjoy!!!!
I'm headed back in two weeks so I will do a complete trip report when I return with all of the details.

Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu has the best Polynesian entertainment in Hawaii. No other luau in Hawaii comes close to their entertainment.

Paradise Cove on Oahu is also better than Germaine's.

Drums of the Pacific on Maui is good. They have the best fire knife dancer on Maui.

I've been to (and enjoyed) Paradise Cove, but have never been to the Polynesian Cultural Center luau.

I went to Germaine's luau in March. Haven't been to any other luaus on Oahu, but I have been to the Old Lahaina luau as well as the Grand Hyatt luau on Kauai (though it was years ago, and I think it has changed some since then).

Germaine's was entertaining, but it was by far the least 'authentic' of the luaus that I've been to. It definitely had a more 'hokey' and folksy feel, with lots and lots of audience participation, and a bit of a 1950s vibe. The food was pretty standard buffet fare. The setting was wonderful- we saw an unbelievable sunset (in fact, I spent over half my time at this luau ignoring the food and show and photographing the sunset instead).

Overall, if you've been to a more traditional luau before, and you are looking for some hokey fun, Germaine's will fit the bill. Otherwise I'd try Paradise Cove or Polynesian Cultural Center (though keep in mind, they don't serve alcohol at the PCC - this was a deterrent for the group I was with).

I think most people who have never been to a luau tend to enjoy the one they go to. I have been to several, including Germaine's. It's been a long time, but I'm not a fan of Germaine's and wouldn't to again. The foods not great and it's way to hokey for me. The setting however is beautiful.

Thanks for the input. I'm not a fan of hokey. I think we'll go with the luau in Lahaina.
