Fort Lauderdale Hotel Location
I am considering spending three nights in Fort Lauderdale and have read about the Embassy Suites Hotel (1100 Southeast 17th Street) in the downtown area. Most reviews I have read seem positive about this hotel.
We will have a car to do things in the day but I am interested in whether this area is good for things to do in the evening, in particular places to eat and good bars. Which areas/streets in Fort Lauderdale would be better for finding evening entertainment?

I have never stayed at the Embassy Suites, so i can't comment on that. I di stay at the Lago Mar last year and thought it was an excellent hotel with a gret beach location.
Las Olas Blvd. is the main street downtown for nightlife, restaurants, and the like.

The Embassy Suites is nice but it's on a main road (17th street) that leads to the beach, but still a mile or two away. You are close to the action but will still have to drive for nice places to eat out and good bars (Las Olas/ Riverwalk and the downtown area).

The Embassy Suites is nice if you do not care about being on the beach. You'll have your car to drive to restaurants and bars from there anyhow. There are some within walking distance like the Outback, Southport Raw Bar, and others.

Embassy Suites is close to loads of restaurants, but as a previous post said, it's about 2 miles to the beach. I had to laugh at them once when they told me it costs more for the "ocean view" at Embassy Suites. I said, "Is that the room way up on the top floor facing east where if you stand on your tiptoes and look way over Port Everglades you can actually see the water??" The guy knew I'd been there. He laughed and basically said "yes." So don't get sucked into the "ocean view". If you stay there, check out "Kelly's" right across the street on Cordova Road. Great bar and seafood (Boston style, and delicious.)
The Riverside Hotel is right on Las Olas Blvd close to all the action. Also, there are loads of beach hotels.
