Fishing holiday in Florida but keeping the wife happy as well !

Hello and greetings from England
I am planning my first visit to Florida and am staying for the first week in Marco Island at a small self catering complex with its own small jetty / pier so I can fish and my wife can sunbath and together we can enjoy the island. This stay has been recommended by a friend. We are looking for a second weeks stay ( from 29 June ) and have considered The Keys or maybe Tampa or higher. Does anyone have any ideas or even a property to rent ? A dock side property or anywhere with good fishing from the property. We just want to have a slow peaceful holiday, some restuarants fairly nearby and just enjoy .. We are not into Disney and are both in our late 50's We have a reasonable budget but not 5 star ! Anywhere considered and we are renting a car We fly back from Miami thank you in advance

Florida is one of the best place to visit. Last month With my family we went there. We spend more time on the beach. Walt Disney World as our best destination. We stay at hotels two days. After that We went to Mexico which is bordered on the north by the United States of America. Rocky Point is the best place for beach activities. Our stay at beach front resort at Las Palmas. We did already online reservation by Rocky Point Rentals Online.

I've done a little fishing in Florida, but mostly in the Sarasota area. There's a small fishing pier there, charter boats, and decent shore fishing in the passes an along several beaches. Tampa has a long abandoned bridge which is used for fishing.

I'd suggest you do a search on Islamorada in the Keys. They have famous fishing both offshore and in. Inshore would be tarpon, bonefish, snook, redfish and the usual snappers, etc. Accommodations on the island run from reasonable to very expensive. Unfortunately I've only passed through so have no specific advice. Good luck, and good fishing!

We have relatives who live in Florida. They have told us that you can rent boats for fishing in many places, in addition to joining a group on a charter fishing boat. They are in the Port Charlotte area. You can rent a house for a week there and fish off the dock for snook.

Since you are flying back from Miami, Islamorada and the Keys is a better location... deep sea fishing charters would allow you the thrill of catching "the Big One" and there is plenty to do in the keys... if you only want the small catch, you can rent anywhere...

Islamorada is a great fishing base in the middle Keys. You will have several restaurants. Your wife will find a bit of shopping and plenty of sun.
You can fish the flats or a few miles north into Florida Bay. You can hop on a charter or party boat out to the Gulf Stream not far off shore. Bud N Mary's marina is one of the best fishing hubs.

For your rentals, you will have to do some web search and should check out VRBO as well. June is off-season. Pricing should be reasonable.
