Fireplace needed -- weekend away from NYC

I'm getting cabin fever, and with the impending cold weather coming to the area, I need to find a place with a fireplace for an upcoming weekend , within 2-3 hours of NYC
I was thinking about the Berkshires, but I am open to suggestions . I would like to keep it at or under $150 per night, someplace near museums and good veggie friendly casual food.
Any ideas?

Nice place, I agree, but too far for a regular (non-holiday) weekend.
Other suggestions? Specific hotels or inns?

Inn at Mystic in CT. Not sure of prices of rooms with fireplaces.

Try Ridgefield CT, New Canaan CT and other areas in Fairfield county CT.

Westchester County should work too.

Googe B&B's in those places.

Hope this helps...

This place comes highly recommended but the rooms with f/p are above your budget

I think that a lot of places within 2-3 hours outside the city (unfortunately) still reflect high city prices so it might be difficult finding a room with a fireplace under $150 but I'm sure it can be done. With that said, here are a few places that I think are great that are somewhat within your price range!

The Berkshires

Also in the Berkshires is the Yankee Inn which I've never stayed at but it looks like it may fit the bill for price & fireplace.

North Fork, Long Island (if you like wine-tasting you'll love this area of Long Island there's tons of vineyards to see) The Blue Iris is such a cute B&B with fireplaces and the owners are amazing (and cook full breakfasts for you in the morning).

Lambertville/New Hope (NJ/PA)

Here's another suggestion in a really nice area of CT, seems like a great price too!

$139 -- B&B Package at 4-Diamond Connecticut Resort

I thought that deal that owlwoman posted looked fabulous so went to read reviews on tripadvisor. Not great.

But thanks for pointing out that travelzoo.com is a good place to check! I always check there to help find places in NYC but it's good for other places too.

Janie, the Mill House Inn in East Hampton is very nice and some of their rooms have gas fireplaces. They're running some specials for the next few weekends.

Thanks, all.
mclaurie:
I looked at the East Hampton place--but the rates seem to be $325- $600 per night! Even with some of the specials they list, the price is out if my range Looks pretty.
I had noticed the Travelzoo special for Saybrook and also noticed the Tripadvisor comments. I'm beginning to hate Tripadvisor because everytime I want to go someplace, I end up finding very negative comments that make me NOT want to go!

New Hope/Doylestown, Pa (Bucks Co.) or somewhere near Phila (where you can go to museums, etc).

The problem is the fireplace, Janie. There are lots of places with fireplace in lounge or dining room but not in bedrooms. Places with fireplaces in bedrooms tend to be pricey.

The best location in the Berkshires for museum (the Clark in Williamstown is tops) and veggie friendly is in the Lee/Lenox/Pittsfield/Great Barrington area. PamSF recently did a trip report in which she mentioned staying at the Birchwood Inn in Lenox, Ma. They do have some rooms with fireplace but they're above your budget. The ones w/o fireplace are closer.
http://www.birchwood-inn.com/accommodations.html

But then I hit pay dirt! Someone else mentioned the Harrison in Lenox and they do have rooms with f/p and the queen bedded rooms are $165 now. http://www.harrison-house.com/room_1.html

If you put "Great Barrington" in the text search you'll get a number of past threads on the area for dining etc. Good luck!

I just read the reviews on TA for the Old Saybrook Inn, some were positive, it's hard to tell what to expect.

I do like thos area very much though, it's very picturesque and you have the Essex Island Marina, which is also lovely and the Griswald Inn, which would both be more expensive, but would be great dining choices.

Anyway, I think for the price it's a great deal.

If you want a real fireplace, try Shelter Harbor Inn, Westerly, RI. Rooms for $156
Great restaurant, too.
Don't know about museums, but Providence isn't that far away.

Thanks for all your suggestions--these all look like good places for future stays, if not in the next couple of weeks.
Clousie, I'm in the Westerly area quite a bit in the summer but never thought of going in the winter--interesting possibility!
