Looking for Romantic Weekend Near NYC

My husband and I live in New York City and want to get away for a romantic weekend without the baby in mid June. Looking for recommendations for towns near NYC by car (no more than 2 hours away). Nice hotel, possible spa or just great town to walk around and eat and relax. Thanks.

Gurney's Inn in Montauk has a spa, and it's a short drive to East Hampton, Bridgehampton, etc.

A little farther, but so beautiful, and so much to do in Newport, Rhode Island.

Woodstock has a lot less traffic than the Hamptons/Montauk for a summer weekend. If you leave after 4pm on Friday you will miss the traffic jam and get there in 2 hours via car--Long Island traffic is slooooooooow. It is a sweet town, you can rent a house or cottage and there are a few inns. Also much cheaper than the Hamptons/Montauk.

Have you ever considered Bucks County, PA? It was just voted one of the most romantic places in the country and many of its towns (New Hope, for example) are great for walking, shopping, eating, relaxing, and history. It's north of Philly and I'm pretty sure you could get there in 2 hours.

I agree with New Hope, PA, it really is a lovely town with shops, a few galleries, good restaurants and a playhouse. If you are into the beach there are some lovely B&Bs in Long Beach Island, NJ and Cape May (somewhat further south).

I would go with the Mayflower Inn in Washington,CT or a nice B and B in Rhinebeck,NY. Both are within two hours of NYC.
Long Beach Island/Cape May NJ and the Hamptons are in excess of two hours drive on NYC.

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the idea of Mohonk or Washington, CT. Are there things to do in both towns other than hang out at the hotel? Appreciate any additional input.

RE Washington Ct. The village itself is beautiful w/ some little stores. Then nearby you have the historic and lovely Litchfield CT. Also there are the antique centers of Southbury and Woodbury CT and the beautiful Lake Waramaug. And not to mention New Preston CT

I would also suggest the Mayflower Inn. It is so romantic. Honestly, the "cottage" rooms are so incredible-- beautifully romantic with modern amenities. The spa is one of the nicest spas I have ever been to.
