Finally going to Fenway... where to stay?

So I got tickets to see the Sox for my husband for Christmas. We're quite excited. We'll be in town for the night of the game, and perhaps the night after, to get away for a few days.

Anyway, where would you recommend? Less than $200 is necessary. Would you stay near the ball park? Is it safe? I know in New York (we live in Yankee territory), you would not stay anywhere near the stadium!!!

I was looking at the MIdtown Hotel?

Any advice would be great. We've been to Boston only once, and it was a pretty bad experience (a bad concert, and then a terrible hotel for $89 a night near the arena!).

The area is very safe. When are you coming? Hotels in Boston can get very expensive, particularly during college graduation season.

The Midtown Hotel is in a good location, I think I've heard it's a little rundown, maybe someone else can speak to that. Closest to Fenway is the Hotel Commonwealth (probably over your budget) and there's also a Howard Johnson's, again, great location, probably not the fanciest place.

Other than that, look for hotels in the Back Bay or Copley Square areas, they'll all be within a couple of T stops or a 20 minute walk to Fenway.

Consider using Priceline to bid in the Back Bay area. We've gotten the Sheraton next to the Prudential Center a few times at a big discount via priceline. Check biddingfortravel.com for more info.

Don't stay near Fenway - nothing unsafe about the area, but there is nothing much really near it and I am assuming you might want to do something else while in Boston.

Do search here of Boston lodging and stay downtown, Back Bay, Copley, Faneuil Hall area - subject has been discussed here a zillion times and many posters have good advice in all price ranges.

Well Fenway is technically part of the Back Bay. You can walk to Copley Square in about 15-20 min, or you can take the T and be there in 5 minutes. I think budget will be your biggest stumbling block.

I would stay in the Copley Square area in Backbay - Westin, Marriott, Fairmont, Sheraton, Jury's. You can walk to Fenway Park from there. Have a great time!

The Hotel Commonwealth (which is right down the street from Fenway Park) is wonderful - but can be very pricey.

Buckminster hotel is right across from Commonwealth Hotel, about a 2 minute walk to Fenway. Perfectly safe neighborhood...mostly BU dorms and college type eateries there.

The Buckminster is very basic, sort of European type hotel. Very reasonable rates for Boston. Specify if you want rooms with private bath

Another vote for the Commonwealth! We stayed there when it was first opened and loved it. Really nice rooms, great staff, etc.

I don't remember the price, sorry.

Thank you so much for the input! We definately want to go out after the game, maybe grab a drink, though if I remember correctly Boston bars close early.

So Copley Square? Back Bay?

Thanks!

Yes, anything Back Bay or Copley Square (which is in Back Bay) is fine.

Bars close at 2am. The best place to pre-game is the Cask N Flagon or Game On. Either of those places are fine for post game as well but I really like the roof deck at the Baseball Tavern. Have fun!

Those bars Wyatt92 mentioned are classics, but for the best beer you must have a pint at Boston Beer Works, also within a stone's throw of Fenway Park (they also have a separate location near the Garden). It's a survivor of the Brew Pub craze of the 90s, and for good reason. It's got a fantastic variety of home brews.

have fun.
