English couple need advice on best US beach holidays
We are considering visiting Myrtle Beach around 4th July but would welcome other suggestions. Have been to Key West and PB, San Diego. Both were great and we're looking for somewhere similar with good bars, restaurants etc.

While MB is a lot of fun (I'm a local), I'd head further down the road for Wild Dunes. It is about 20 minutes outside Charleston proper and has much better dining and nightlife than MB has.
If you really want to go to MB, stay at Kingston Plantation or Ocean Creek. Better beach area, very near good dining, shopping and nightlife. Either way, have fun!

Myrtle Beach is o.k. but nothing like San Diego or Key West. In your time frame, it will be very crowded. I wouldn't rule it out but it is a southern beach resort is all I can say. I spent a week there last July, we stayed at Kingston Plantation. This was a nice place. There are plenty of things to do in MB showes to be seen, plenty of Minature golf many restaurants etc. A lot of Sea food places. Since you are a couple maybe you would prefer something more quiet. I would also look into Hilton Head. Just remember it is busy in MB and a lot of traffic.

As others have mentioned, Myrtle Beach is very touristy - t-shirt shops, mini-golf, etc. On the positive side, you can generally find any kind of restaurant, shopping, and entertainment you want in Myrtle Beach.
I go at least once a year, but some people don't like the noise, traffic, masses of people.
If you do decide to go to Myrtle Beach, my new favorite seafood restaurant is Captain George's. It is located north of Myrtle Beach near Broadway at the Beach.
Have fun.
