dovima, PamSF and anyone in San Francisco, very specific hotel questions
I am going to be in your lovely city from March 17-21 and I am on a tight budget. A few hotels have very reasonable prices but I am timid about booking them for fear of being stuck in a real dive. Can anyone tell me what the know about The York Hotel, The Adante Hotel and The Sheehan Hotel?
I checked on Tripadvisor.com and all of these choices have very mixed reviews. I am travelling from Canada so the exchange rate needed to be factored in to what I am spending per night. Hoping for no more than $80.00 USD / night.
Thank you for any insight you can provide.

My cousins stayed at the Adante when they were in town. GREAT location! Just a few blocks to Union Square, and the Powell Street cable car line, and the theatres. I didn't see their room, but they said it was okay. Tiny lobby with tiny bar attached as I recall.

Have you considered trying Priceline? I've seen people get very nice hotels for very cheap. You can look on biddingfortravel.com to see what people are getting lately. Not long ago, someone got the Hyatt Embarcadero for $35 a night. Almost makes me want to go sleep over!

I pass by the Sheehan occasionally. It's in a good neighborhood, a bit away from the real congestion of Union Square. The York puts you over the hill into more of the Polk Gulch area - again, away from the immediate Union Square area.
Other than that, I don't have any other knowledge of your choices. Good luck.

Thank you all very much for your responses. This is really helping, I was getting more and more confused the more I kept looking. Please keep the replies coming, I am hoping to make a decision this evening.
Thanks Grasshopper for the research on biddingfortravel!

Well, I tried going to biddingfortravel.com several times and my internet connection freezes every time I try to register. Don't know what is up with that. I may try the Priceline route tonite but if anyone knows anything more about the hotels mentioned above, I would still very much appreciate the feedback.
Can't wait for my little get-away!
