dog-friendly Outer Banks places?

I know there's one dog-friendly hotel (I think it's the Nags Head Ramada Inn), but are there others? It's just me, my husband, and the dog, so we won't be renting a house or anything, and it would be just for a long weekend. We'd like to keep the cost in the low $100s.

Also, does anyone know where dogs are allowed on the beach?

Here's the low down on dogs in three towns where the hotes/motels are concentrated:

Kitty Hawk
Dogs must be controlled at all times. On ocean and sound beaches, dogs must be restrained with a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length, from June 1 to Sept. 1, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Kill Devil Hills
Dogs are allowed on the beach from mid-Sept. to mid-May. Dogs aiding the handicapped are allowed year round.

Nags Head
Dogs are allowed on the beach year round as long as they are restrained by a leash not exceeding 10 feet.

Sorry, can't help with pet friendly hotels.

allison04: We have a big beach house (much too large for the three of you) in Corolla, and we definitely allow dogs--as do some other places. Check out the website for www.atlantic-realty.nc and you can search for 'pets allowed' properties--there may be some small ones available for you. Depending on when you are going, we see dogs all the time on our Corolla beach--even our own large hairy Golden Retrievers! We put them on leash shen there are people around, and take them off when walking away from crowds. The uppermost tip of the OB (nearest Va Beach)is less populated, so you could get away with letting your dog run more easily. More people should vacation with their dogs! Good luck.

NC is a tough state when it comes to pet friendly hotels. For years it was against the law to take a dog into a hotel room. Thank goodness that changed! For petfriendly hotels try www.petswelcome.com

If you ever do rent a house there, there is a man named Cola Vaughan who has set up his rental business around being pet-friendly- every home he rents is pet-freindly, and some are small for just two-3 people and a dog. His website should come up if you search that name and outer banks.
