Clayton MO Restaurant recommendation

We will be visiting Clayton, MO this weekend, and I'm looking for your recommendations for a good pub/grill. A place with a good beer/wine selection would be super.

There are so many restaurants listed on saucemagazine.com site in the Clayton area, making it hard to decide. We will be staying at the Cheshire Lodge and will have a car.

Thanks for any help...

I assume you are looking for something casual? My best suggestion would be to check out "The Loop" (offically in University City, not Clayton) which is just north of the Cheshire. Drive North on Skinker and make a left, West, on Delmar. Riddles has one of the best wine lists in town, serving food with many local ingredients. Blueberry Hill has a reputation as having some of the best burgers in town, and a good beer selection. So, for wine...go to Riddles (although they do have a decent beer selection and better food), for beer go to B-Hill. All the contact info will be on Saucemagazine's website under Restaurants University City/Loop.

And, just to confuse you a bit more, The Cheshire is offically in the city of St. Louis. Don't ask, we have an abundance of municipalities and often much confusion.

I second the Loop, but I suggest Cicero's for a meal. They have a great beer selection.

If you want to stay in the Clayton area, check out Remy's. They have an extensive wine list.

Jimmie's on the Park and The Crossing are both in Clayton and excellent, if they're in your price range. Jimmie's is practically walking distance from the Cheshire. Harvest is also close to the Cheshire and very good. A more casual place is CJ Muggs in downtown Clayton but it's farther away.

WanderWoman asked for pub/grills in the OP. While all the restaurant suggestions are good, I would not describe Remy's, Jimmy's or Harvest as "pub/grills". And I personally cannot recommend Cicero's for their food, but they do have an excellent beer selection.

If you are looking for additional restaurant advice, come back and we'll all try to help.

What about Duff's in the Central West End ? I thought that it was more a "pubby" place and enjoyed it very much !
Is that too far from Clayton?
We did enjoy Blueberry Hill as well.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have looked at the websites and sauce, etc. to check them out. Razzledazzle mentions Duff's as a pub style place - is that Mike Duffy's? Do others recommend it? Thanks again...

Duff's is in the Central West End:
Duff's Restaurant,392 N. Euclid Ave. 314-361-0522 They are a casual, good food restaurant. Sandwiches, pizza, chicken Marsala, decent wine and beer selections.

Also in the West End is Llywelyn's Pub 4747 McPherson Ave. 314-361-3003. They are a real pub, or at least as much as it can be considering it's in St. Louis.

The Central West End is only a 10 min. drive from the Cheshire.

We walked to Jimmie's from the Cheshire, and liked it a lot for dinner. There is a large bar/lounge area, with its own menu, too. It is a very nice place.

It's in a very prettty little spot, with a good coffee shop next door, too, if you want to take a walk in the morning. Just ask at the hotel for directions. It's only a few blocks.

P.S. Duff's is also very good. And check at Blueberry Hill to see if Chuck Berry is playing there. He does often.
