Chilly in Casinos

We are going to Vegas in July - am thinking of what to pack - was told need to pack a sweater as the casinos are so cold - I normally do not get cold - but am wondering -how chilly are the casinos? Thanks.

I read somewhere that the casinos are usuallty kept around 70 degreed or so. The casinos feel chilly inside because its so hot outside.

I consider a sweater(s) and or a jacket essential items when travelling to LV in the summer months. Unfortunately, you will not find yourself freezing in all the casinos, so carrying it around may seem like a hassle, but I was always glad I had, it especially at some of the restaurants. Have fun!!

Chilly!
And in the desert dry air, you seem to feel it more.
a light wrap (pashmina) or a little sweater are all you need.
Have fun!

Definitely take a sweater, just in case. What kind of person are you? Do you always seem to be cold, no matter what the situation? (ie: in movie theaters, supermarkets) I am probably not the best person to ask because I get chilly when it's 75 degrees out, but I definitely found the casinos to feel like meat lockers at times!

I'm pasting a comment from a website about Vegas casinos:
"There?s NOWHERE you can find reliable information about the temperature inside a particular casino. I?ve frozen to death in a Vegas casino in July, and I?ve had to start shedding clothes in January. Vegas definitely is ?Layer City.?"

BTW, the reason the casinos are typically cool to chilly is that this increases alertness (whereas warmth increases drowsiness), and studies have shown that gamblers play longer when the air is cooler.
Costs more for the casino to keep the temps down, but they make the money back in greater takes from their gamblers.

travelis, that is really interesting. I never thought about it, but you sure don't feel sleepy in a casino!

Maybe the temps are low for the workers in the casinos also. The dealers etc who have to wear shirts, ties, jackets?
Raking in all that money must cause one to become quite warm!

Believe me, there is nothing that happens accidentally when it comes to casino operations.
The casino industry doesn't like to advertise all the research it's done on how to extract the maximum amount of money from gamblers, but these are among the data I'm aware of:

-Oxgen content: when air has a higher oxygen content mental acuity increases as does alertness. As such, many casinos are reported to have supplemented their HVAC systems with oxygen supplies.
-Smells: while it's not done by many casinos, research has shown that certain smells will make people more comfortable and keep them in the casinos longer. So, as with oxygen, some casinos have experimented with adding fragrance to their air circ.
-Sounds: lots of exciting sound heightens alertness. Did you know that extensive research has even been done to make sure that slot trays are constructed so that coins falling into the trays makes maximum noise? That's the sound of the casino paying out money! You could be next! And jackpot sirens, same thing. Any noise associated with gaming excitiement is considered a good noise. (Is it any wonder why your senses are fried after a few hours in a casino?).
-Smoke: less second hand smoke equals less fatigue. Casinos aren't just being kind to your lungs when they go to great lengths to purify the air in the casinos these days.
Time: everyone knows there are no clocks or windows in (most) casinos. That's to insulate gamblers from perception of passage of time to keep them in the casino longer.
Lighting: dimly lit casinos diminish alertness. The occasional small time casino will be dimly lit. But not the big money makers.
-Food: casinos would prefer that gamblers not eat while gaming. At least not heavy/fatty foods. That's a sure recipe for sluggishness and withdrawal from the gaming area.

It's always a good idea to have sweater in the restaurants as well, especially if they seat you near an AC vent.

travelis missed one of the most effective tools in the casino's aresenal to remove you from your money (besides the natural house advantage on most games) - FREE BOOZE. Just ask Leonard Tose about that one.

No way would I carry a sweater around in the summer! The 70 degrees inside feels great compared to the 105 degrees outside!

I am always cold inside when the air conditioning is on. In fact I am wearing my sweater as I type this message in my office. While in LV two weeks ago, I was never cold inside the casino. I don't know if it is because it is so hot outside but I was perfectly comfortable sans sweater all week.

Enjoy Vegas and good luck gambling!
