chicago hotel and a traditional thanksgiving
We are headed to Chicago for Thanksgiving. It would have been better to plan this a little earlier, but here we are. Many of the hotels/B&Bs we were interested in are booked. Currently, we are looking at Hotel Allegro and The Willows. Any comments on other options under $250? We generally avoid large chain hotels (Hilton, Marriot, etc). We love to walk and prefer public transportation to cabs. Our 4 days will be spent sightseeing and eating great food. From what I have heard, Chicago has quite a collection of wonderful restaurants. Can't wait!
Any ideas on a good restaurant for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner? Price is not an issue.
Thanks in advance

Have you done a quick hotel check on www.kayak.com? I see a lot of hotels available and really good rates.
You say you like to avoid large chains but I see the:
Intercontinental $125--great location
Westin $199
Hotel Indigo $116--would love to read a review of this hotel. Has anyone stayed there. Has always interested me.
Wyndham $191
Lots of others.

Have you tried vrbo.com? You could rent a condo instead of a hotel. That would give you a kitchen and possibly parking.
For hotels we've stayed at the Seneca. It is a nice little place and the location can't be beat.

Thanks for the suggestion. We ended up with a reservation at the Willows, so we will see how that turns out. After reading a little more about it on Tripadvisor, I think it will be OK.
We are looking forward to our trip to Chicago!

My husband and I have traveled to Chicago for Thanksgiving several times.
Hotels are CHEAP! Each time we go to priceline.com and have never paid more than $80 for a 5star on Michigan Ave.
Have you tried the Hotel Burnham? It is very nice..they may have dinner in their restaurant as well - and it is right around the corner from Garrett's Popcorn - the best popcorn anywhere!!!

I would start researching your meal options though....most stores and restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving day. Of course, they are open on "black friday".
We usually go to the Drake's buffet - it is not cheap but ultra swanky.
You MUST make a reservation far in advance. They have limited seating options and availability.
I always check metromix.com for eating options on holidays in Chicago.
Enjoy your day in the city!

I've never stayed there but have heard very good things about the Willow. I used to live a few blocks from there and it's in a great neighborhood (Lincoln Park) with tons of restaurants and stores, plenty of buses and a few blocks from the brown line (train).
