Cheyenne Help!
Hi. Our family of ten is traveling to Cheyenne in July for the Frontier Days. Where should we stay while we are there. We currently have reservations at the La Quinta for $163.90 per night.
Also, can anyone recommend a neat, family oriented place to eat in Cheyenne?
Thanks!!

Seriously? $163 a night? I know hotels are expensive during Frontier Days but that seems excessive. La Quinta is fine--we stayed there once during our son's soccer tournament a few years ago.
Sanford's downtown is a regional chain wtih a huge menu and a fun atmosphere--good for a group. Lexi's Mesa Grille would also be good for a group.
Frontier Days is fun and Cheyenne is full of western history. Have fun!

That price does seem really high! It is currently $47.00! There are a Hampton and a Fairfield that look pretty nice. I wish I could say I had a good dining experience in Cheyenne when we were there in August. We searched for something that wasn't a chain and never found anything. We had a horrible breakfast at Little America's coffee shop where we were staying (which was also a mistake.)My husbands hashbrowns were still frozen in the center and when he asked the surly waitress if he could pleased have some that were cooked she grabbed the plate, brought them back, threw the plate down and never said a word! Since we couldn't find anything original, one night we decided to stop at Hooters for dinner. It was awful food and the manager and the waitresses were running around throwing things at each other! When we used to visit my husband's Grandma we always took her to Sheri's for breakfast. It is pretty close to a Denny's but the food was ok and the service was good. There is an Applebee's and an Outback Steakhouse. Have a good trip, hope you have better dining than we found!

Well, there is the Hitching Post and Little America. Check them out--reservations book up early for FD. Plus you will find that the room rates are 2-3x what the room would normally go for! There is a great/inexpensive Mexican restaurant that we went to this year that is over by the mall--can't think of the name off hand if you like Mexican let me know. My mom lives in Cheyenne and I'll have her check on it.

Check tripadvisor.com for reviews and rankings. The Fairfield Inn is currently in #1 spot. There's not a lot to choose from in Cheyenne. My brother's family lived in the Hitching Post for several months with kids and pets while they were waiting for their house to be built. Just not a lot of options without driving back down to Fort Collins. That might be an option if you are interested.
Supply and demand = $47 room going for $163 during Frontier Days. Just not that many hotel rooms in the city (town).

This was on our local news today--hopefully it won't do that weird character thing that sometimes happens with cut and paste--"Cheyenne Frontier Days has announced Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Trace Adkins and Montgomery Gentry will perform during the 2006 "Daddy of em all". McBride will perform the first Saturday evening, July 22nd. Urban is scheduled Sunday evening, July 23rd and Adkins will be on stage with Montgomery Gentry Friday July 28th.
