I like the Pavilion Lodge too. Very simple, basic, no frills at a great location.

Another vote for the Pavillion Lodge. We stayed there 10 years in a row.

They're ALL family friendly, especially in summer. I've always thought about staying at the Pavillion Lodge, especially now that it's been updated, but just haven't for a variety of reasons. We generally stay at the Hotel Metropole. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Atwater, very historic (the oldest hotel), also recently remodeled. The ONLY problem with that hotel was the lack of elevator and the best rooms are on the third floor.

sam88, I don't know if you have your heart set on a hotel, but if you'll consider a condo, look into Hamilton Cove. They are quite nice, have a pool, and the view is beautiful. It always reminds me of the Mediterranean. They are a distance from downtown Avalon, but to me, that is a plus. Also, they all come with a golf cart to get around in. One note, if you get one, try to get one that doesn't have a lot of steps to get to. The complex is built on a hill and some units can only be accessed by steep steps.

We always liked the Hotel Metropole, since it has an elevator and is right in the middle of everything. It has a spa on the third floor. Continental breakfast is included. Some of the rooms are nicer than others and priced accordingly. Go to hotel-metropole.com and it will show you the rooms, as well as having a real time video cam (really fun to watch!).
