We felt we got a good deal with Dollar this past spring Thrifty was about the same price however I think they are a little further from the airport.

I always go with the company with the best deal and have never had a problem with any of them.

Lihue airport provides for most of the major car rental companies, which keeps the average rental price resonable.

Personally I would spend a couple extra dollars and rent a convertible. Hawaii in general is great converible territory.

We have used Alamo the last two trips to Kauai (most recent trip in Sep. 2006) and got midsize through Orbitz for very little more than a compact. We have also used National.
