Calling all Manhattan Foodies! Need a restaurant for party of 10-15 for business dinner, Jan. 19th

In or around Union Sq. where a seminar for 10-15 will be hosted at the W on Jan. 18 and 19. We've tried Gramercy Tavern-booked. We've tried Union Sq. Cafe'-booked. The hotel's Olives is a possibility but as resident Bostonites we no longer are that impressed with Todd English as we once were. P/pax around $100-$125, incl. wine. It seems that this size is too small for a private dining room, so atmosphere that makes conversation possible is a near-must. Walkability a plus but not necessary. Can cab it to other 'hoods. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I also am not too crazy about Olive's.
Blue Water Grill
Mesa Grill
Tabla
Angelo & Maxie
Candela
Gotham
Yujin
Strip House

Also check menupages for more ideas, and comments.

Just thought of 1 more, and it does have a private room that may work for you, Beppe and E. 22nd St.

All good ideas. I'd add Eleven Madison Park (about 10 blocks north), Tocqueville and Periyali. They all have private rooms according to Zagat guide.

Looks like it'll be Mesa Grill. By far and away the most accomodating. Thank you, MFNYC and McLaurie for your suggestions!

E Trulli, 122 East 27th St. - Italian. Can handle small parties. Not as well known as some mentioned in other replies but popular with locals.

blue smoke. it's on 27th street. 10 blocks from union square, and it's danny meyers place, who also owns gramercy tavern, tabla, and union square cafe. prices are good, service is good, and the bbq is great! your associates might be impressed with a place so different.
