Boat Tours of the San Juans?
We will be camping a few days nearing Bellingham and would like recommendations for 'cruises' around the San Juans. Being from Sonoma County, CA, we aren't interested in a whale watch tour, but would like to see some of the island while in the area. Any recommendations?

Let me tell you all about it! So if you stick to the ferry line it will take you to a majority of the San Juan Islands. Recently I went to Friday Harbor and did a drive around the entire island! Really fun by the way!
However if you are looking for a boat tour.. don't waste your money! The pods that swim through the islads love to hang around the San Juan Island, especially around Lime Kiln Point State Park between June and August. Which is when the weather is perfect in Washington anyway!
Most islands have wonderful accommodations for B&B. I hope you have a wonderful time. Please feel free to PM if you have any questions about the San Juan Islands!

Yes, I think if you have limited time, park your car at the ferry landing in Anacortes and walk on a ferry to San Juan Island...there are many islands in the San Juans, but the ones that have regular ferry service are San Juan, Orcas, Shaw and Lopez. I suggest San Juan Island, because you walk off the ferry right into Friday Harbor, where you can get lunch and putter around for a while before boarding the next ferry back. You need to go to the Washington State Ferry System website for ferry times and reservations.
But I recommend also staying on one island for a night if you can, because they each have some unique spots to visit and great atmosphere.
If you decide to stay the night on Orcas or San Juan Island (they are the largest ones with the most to do), just reserve a spot for your car on the WSFS website.

There are also whale watching and island cruises right from Bellingham, which might be convenient instead of schlepping to Anacortes and waiting/paying for the ferry.
