I've never been to this area and have often thought of renting a beach house for a week large enough for the whole family. I'd love to try this but don't know enough about the beaches and best times of the year to go. I'm not interested in the heat and crowds, but would like a beautiful beach area that isn't too hard to walk to from a house. Please make suggestions..thanks!

Budget: Moderate. I know the closer you get to the beach, the more expensive, but I'd like to find out what the range might be for a comfortable & clean house, but doesn't have to be luxurious! Thanks,

Just so you better understand how the forum works -- there is no "North Carolina page". All threads are lumped together under "United States" so w/o a hint in either the title or the text there was no way we knew you were talking about NC.

Now, clicking on North Carolina (or any state) does let folks search for some threads about NC. But there is no way to work backwards and see what a thread is about (unless one tries every state)

Are you interested in any paticular NC beach area? The Outer Banaks, for example, has several rental agencies you could use like www.sunrealtync.com (the biggest one).

You say you aren't interested in the hat and the crowds..what does that mean? That you prefer to go when it isn't as hot and crowded or just the opposite?

jckcpy, you are late for this season.

You are going to have a tough time finding a moderately priced house on/near a beautiful beach with few crowds and June, July, and August will be very hot and humid.

That said, I think your best bet is www.VRBO.com for the Outer Banks. Also, try Carolina Beach or Sunset Beach.

Try the Brunswick Islands www.ncbrunswick.com. You'll be able to find something, but the sooner ther better.

I second the recommendation for checking out vrbo.com. We went this route for a July trip with extended family to Oak Island. Supposedly, this area is much less busy than the northern beaches

The Outerbanks area is a great family friendly beach town. You can find anything from expensive (Duck/Carolla) to inexpensive (South Nags Head.) Anything from older home to new and prices from low to high.

Most economical season is end of August which can be hit or miss with the weather - you could run into rain but we always have had great weather even during bad hurricane seasons.

You can try www.nagsheadrealty.com to see a variety of types of houses in the are... for instance, Hause of Chance is a nice three bedroom, great location at a good rate, and Summer Dream II which is right on the ocean so a bit more.

South Nags head has beautiful family friendly quiet beaches and is a short drive from Jocky's Ridge State Park with great sand dunes, and the OB pier which is fun family fishing and the Oregon Inlet. MUCH to do in the area.

Another great area is the southern NC beach area of Cape Fear and Wrightsville Beach - google it and check out some homes there.

Thanks to all who replied...I not only know more about how the forum works, but I have some great places to look. I'm thinking of next summer, so I do plan ahead. I do want to be able to get in the water and enjoy the beach, but I'd rather skip the worst heat and humidity. Here in the midwest, school is out by May 23-25 or so, and we can get a jump on some resort areas sometimes if the eastern schools don't let out until June.

Here's another question: one of the web sites listed so many areas it made my head swim. Carova, Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Nags head, south Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Waves, Salvo, Avon, etc. Kawg gave me a few indicators of expensive, or less expensive, and that helps. Anyone else have ideas on the prettiest, cleanest, etc? Thanks again. I'll also check out Sunset Beach, Carolina Beach, Brunswick Islands, and Oak Island.
