Atlanta Peachtree Road Race July 4
I have July 3 and 4 booked at The Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta since we will be in town to run the Peachtree Road Race. Looking for recommendations on things closeby...
a. restaurants under $20 per person
b. shopping

Lots of restaurants within a few blocks.
If you want Southern cooking, Mary Macs.
If you want good pizzas and pasta, Baroanda.
At 5th and Juniper there are several choices. Straits (in the old Spice location) if fabulous Asian fusion (and I been FABULOUS!). Avra is a Greek restaurant across the street and Mu Lan is a good chinese restaurant two doors up.
Inexpensive choices are Little Azios, the Noodle Shop and a bakery a block up from Starbucks - the 3 restaurants sharing the same outside dining area.
Gordon Biersch is a brewpub with good food.
Atlanta Pride is that weekend also so you're going to have a lot of company in Midtown. Tons of places to eat in Midtown. Not so much shopping though. You could take MARTA up to Lenox Square and have access to some fabulous shopping. In a year, that stretch of Peachtree will have fabulous shopping, but just a few stores now.
Check the Atlanta Pride website to see the parade route and event info this year. The festival is at the Civic Center this year (instead of Piedmont Park due to the drought).
(I can't believe they moved Pride to the same weekend as the Peachtree - but for some reason they didn't ask me for advice )

Never mind. The Pride parade is on Sunday the 6th so there shouldn't be a problem for you (since you are leaving on the 5th).
The parade will be on Sunday, July 6, 2008 and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Good luck on the race. I hope the tshirt is pretty this year.

Welcome to Jawjuh! Hope you enjoy the race.
My favorites:
Tacqueria Del Sol (Corner of Northside and Huff Road)
Six Feet Under - New location at 685 11th Street
The Varsity - Hotdog place
None of these are too far away from your hotel. Have fun!

Not really.
I wish Mary Mac's did breakfast. I can't think of a real breakfast place in the area. If you want to drive a bit, two choices would be the Majestic Diner on Ponce de Leon or here -

The Silver Skillet may be a bit of a challenge to get to because the 14th street bridge is now closed. You can get there but its a bit of a challenge right now.
Of course, Krispy Kreme is a few blocks away and they ARE the best donuts in the world. They probably have some other breakfast items.
OKAY, I just figured out the closest "good" place - Gold Star Cafe and Bakery - 903 Peachtree St NE # C (next to Little Azio's and the Noodle Shop). It's about a 3.5 block walk up Peachtree for you (at 8th and Peachtree).
It will be on the right after you pass Starbucks.
Another really good Atlanta breakfast place would be the Flying Biscuit at Piedmont and 10th - but that's a further walk and parking can be a challenge at that intersection. But, its a great breakfast place (and after breakfast too) and you could walk around Piedmont Part after breakfast.

Of course I am
I like your blog, Jawjuh. I ate at the Dillard House Sunday before last. It was my "thank you gift" for those helping me move furniture. Mary Mac's last Sunday (planning an Italy trip). Good eatin' in GA. Nice blog.

We're home now. Lots of fun in Atlanta. We ate at Baraonda on Thursday night & it was dee-licious!! Thanks for that tip! After the race on Friday, we went to the flying biscuit but it was an hour wait time and we were STARVING so we went across the street & found a little cafe. I forgot to write down the name of it, but the food was outstanding. They have an all you can eat brunch for around $10.95 that is delicious. We were the only straight couple in the place, and they were very gracious towards us...excellent service & food.
