Argosy Cruises - Which one???

We'll be in Seattle for three days later this week and want to do one of the Argosy cruises. Which one is your favorite and why?? Should we make a reservation in advance or just buy our tickets the same day?

Our visitors always like the cruise that goes through the locks. Half-price tickets are often available at the ticket office at 1st Avenue and Pike--in the Pike Place Market. In any event, you can buy your tickets the day of the cruise.

Do you get good views of the city on that tour? I've been through locks before, so if it's just for the sake of the locks, we don't really need that, but if it's great scenery, I'm in!

I've been to Blake Island before but not on the Argosy cruise. It looks like fun, though. It will be running on Saturday. It includes a salmon bake and native American dancing. Here's information on the Tillicum Village at Blake Island:

http://www.tillicumvillage.com/tour_description.htm

The island is a wonderful state marine park, and the longhouse is the only facility other than camping and picnic areas on the island. There are nice trails through the forest, though I don't know if you'd have time for them.

the harbor tour/ Blake island is quite scenic - on the harbour tour you see the downtown skyline / I took some family last year who were resistant to going and they ended up loving it.

I also think Tillicum Village is very fun/ you can spend the whole day out there if you choose/ there are some hiking trails/ nice views of Mt Baker from there.

Thanks for the tips! I think the weather will play a big role in which day we take a tour and which one we pick.

The Locks Cruise leaves from Pier 56. It provides views of the city skyline from the harbor (Elliot Bay) and from Lake Union. It sails past Shilshoe Bay into the locks and then through the ship canal under the Ballard Bridge, the Fremont Bridge, and the Aurora Bridge passing several well established residential neighborhoods: Magnolia, Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, and the house boats on Lake Union.

Some days the tour begins with a bus ride to Lake Union and other days it ends with a bus ride back to Pier 56 from Lake Union.

Thanks for the info everyone. I just wanted to say that we did the locks cruise yesterday and it was awesome. Our guide, Lindsay, was very informative but not annoying or overbearing. I'm so glad we chose to do this versus a ferry to an island and back. I think we learned so much more about the area this way. By the way, we got our tickets for $17 at the info booth in Pike Market, rather than paying $25 at the Argosy ticket counter, thanks to tips on this board.
