Paul Gauguin Cruises

I'd love info on the Paul Gauguin cruises if anyone has done one. Trying to decide if it's the best way to see the Society Islands or should I just fly over and island hop? Are there any other suggestions on cruising?

Qe have friends who just returned from a cruise on Paul Gauguin and my sister and B-I-L took one about 2 years ago - both couples rave about it. You can read dozens of first hand reviews about the PG cruises on cruisecritic.com.

I have read reviews, thanks for answering. Just trying to find out what other options there are.

I've not taken a cruise in that area, but I have taken several trips there, flying in and on one trip, flying from island to island, on another trip, chose one island and stayed there. Which to do depends on what you are looking for: a cruise experience, or visiting the islands. If you want to visit the islands, you are better off without the cruise, as it takes up a lot of your time and you end up with very little time on each island.

Check out the Windstar cruises - they have a 145 passenger ship in the area with 7 and 10 day cruises. Check out reviews of both lines on the cruisecritic

Cruisecritic.com is your best guide. Check there for reviews.

The other option is Aranui 5, which is quite different from Paul Gauguin but will take you to islands you might not otherwise be able to reach. Do read up on the ship. I know someone who went on the last incarnation, and he enjoyed the itinerary, but the ship is not as luxurious, though getting better each time.
