Apache Trail

How diffcult is the drive from Phoenix to Canyon Lake along the Apache Trail? I've heard it's a two lane road with lots of mountainous hairpin turns and a couple of 1 lane bridges. Thanks for the info.

You heard correctly. Gravel in a lot of places too. Been there, done that but never again.

I don't recall exactly where the pavement ends and the gravel starts, but I'm pretty sure you can make it to Canyon Lake on pavement. The one lane bridges are on the gravel portion. I wouldn't be too concerned about the drive if you're only going as far as Canyon Lake.

i'm sure the pavement goes as far as Canyon Lake. The trip there is not difficult - out boy scout troop used to make it in a 20 yr old bus

You ought to go past Canyon Lake to Tortilla Flats. It's paved that far and not that bad. Tortilla Flats has great hamburgers. On weekends live bands play outide on the patio. Leave a dollar for them to staple to the ceiling.
