Anyone stayed at the Carmel Garden Court Inn?
We're looking for a place to spend our first anniversary...with our dog...in mid-August. We live in San Francisco, and I've never been to Carmel, which amazed my husband. Of course, it appears we waited too long to book our trip, since everything is now booked - excep the Carmel Garden Court Inn. I found some positive comments searching the Fodor's boards, but some horrible reviews on yahoo travel and trip advisor. Has anyone stayed there and have any advice? We're outdoors people, so plan on spending most of our time at the beach and walking around town, but I've gotta get a good night's sleep, so that's what we're after of course.
Thanks!!
Kim

Kim, can't help you with that one but have you tried:
http://www.carmelbayviewinn.com/
A Best Western that is reasonable and charming, for the money... I would go back in a minute.

I have stayed at both! We booked most of the Carmel Garden Court for my daughter's wedding. On the plus side, it is a well maintained and clean property with an older Inn charm. The "custom to order" continental breakfast was excellent. On the minus, the rooms are small and the furnishings could use updating. Also, it's a longer walk to the shops and dining than many other Carmel properties. The BayView is more up to date and still charming. And a little closer to the action. Either would be a good choice, though I might lean towards the BW BayView. My DH likes Carmel Garden Court better.

Not sure about Pet Friendly motels/ inns, though I know Carmel is a dog friendly town. Did you ask if Carmel Garden Court takes pets? Also check aaa.com under lodging and they have pet icons for places that take pets.

Vagabond's House (www.vagabondshouseinn.com ) is a charming B&B in a quiet prime location in the village at 4th and Dolores, and is dog-friendly. Blows away Best Western's location (busy street outside of the main village) and ambiance. See my review with photos on www.tripadvisor.com We've stayed there 3 times.

FYI, I think you will be fine at the Carmel Garden Court with your dog. I would not be scared off by some of those reviews. FYI, we stayed in the Torres Street rooms, which are the smaller ones I mentioned. Part of our party stayed in the patio rooms and had more rooms and nicer furnishings.

Are you familiar with the Monte Verde Inn? The location looks a bit more central, and around the same price as the Carmel Garden Court Inn. I saw that one person had a bad experience with a wedding party, but aside from that, most reviews I can find are positive. Comments?
