Annapolis, MD

Any suggestions for a dinner restaurant in Annapolis, MD. Preferably a seafood place that's not touristy. Doesn't need to be expensive, but whatever is good.

I liked Carrol's Creek and O'Leary's Seafood (both in Eastport) for this cuisine the time I went. Also (believe it or not) Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub for crab cakes.

The Cafe Normandie at 185 Main Street--in the heart of Annapolis--is quite nice, not touristy, and offers several seafood dishes with a French theme. I recommend it for a nice dinner.

Cantler's is top notch been there a few time great crabs. I also enjoyed Jake's not on the bay but a good view and water seating.

Almost anything down town will be touristy but pretty good quality. All of the above would be fine. If you want to pick your own crabs, then Cantlers and also Buddies are good bets. Buddies is at the water end of Main St. across from O'Brian's and on the 2nd floor. Cantler's is away from downtown.

If you are looking for finer crab dining, the above are fine and, further afield, Paul's on the South River (on Riva Road) and The Narrows on Kent Island.

Another fine dining restaurant is Severn House across from the Naval Academy. I don't know if the water taxi goes there or not.

Bob Kinkead, who has operated a seafood restaurant by that name in Washington for fifteen years or so, has opened Hell Point Seafood on the waterfront.

Although it is not a seafood restaurant, Jalapeno's(Spanish-Mexican) is much more than a typical Mexican restaurant. It is located on the west end of Annapolis close by Riva Road/Route 2 in a non-descript shopping center.

The Narrows, ten minutes away from me near Kent Narrows, is excellent. Nearby Fisherman's Inn is mediocre. Hemingways on Kent Island on the water near the Bridge has added Michael Rork as head chef. Rork ran the Town Dock for almost twenty years in St. Michaels until it felt victim to the economy.

Another really good seafood restaurant that's not touristy either would be Jerry's Seafood on West Street. It's not on the water but the quality of seafood is always excellent.

I'll always agree with Carrols Creek, The Narrows, Pauls on the South River for good seafood and Jalapeno's is one of the very best Spanish restaurants I've ever been to.
