Amelia Island, St Simon or Jekyll Island in January?

We have 4 days to stop somewhere between south Florida (where we spend Christmas with my parents) and home in NY. We have kids ages 4 years and 8 months, and we like nature and beaches (even if it's cold). We do this trip every year. Last year we stopped at Hunting Beach State Park in SC, which was wonderful, the year before was Amelia Island, one year was Jekyll Island, and another was Cumberland Island, staying in St. Mary's. As you can tell, we really like this part of the country!

Now with 2 kids, we'd like somewhere with great beaches, a cute small town and ideally a nice kid-friendly inn or a hotel/condo with our own kitchen.

We're thinking of either northeastern Florida (Amelia Island again, and also visit Little Talbot Island) or southern Georgia. Maybe St. Simon's Island, for somewhere new, or somewhere we haven't even considered yet. Does St. Simon's have good beaches that you can't drive on? We considered Sapelo Island, staying on the mainland, but don't want to be stuck on the island all day with an 8-month-old if the weather turns bad.

Any suggestions?

St Simons does have walkable beaches with no cars, and it is a real place as well as a collection of gated golf course communities.

Thanks for the reply. Which beaches do you think are the nicest on St Simons?

We have vacation rentals on St Simons. We absolutely love the beaches and the charming town. The people are very friendly and there are plenty of family activities if the weather turns. On our site www.SSIcondo.com there is a link for things to do. Feel free to check it out. You can email me [email protected] if you would like more info.
