Albuquerque NM - 2 festivals, are they at the same time or not?

Hello, guys, looking into possibility to go in October. Yes, for Balloon festival of course, but also found there is Arabian horse show. It would be wonderful to attend both if possible!

1. I can't find exact days of either show in 2007. Maybe somebody can post website(s) with the dates? Hopefully, the locals know better.

2. Balloons are at the Fiesta Park, horses at the Expo NM. Is there an easy way to get to both sites by public transportation if I won't be with a group? Let's say, from the downtown area.

I have not decided yet, can go with the Elderhostel for balloons, arrive early for horses and sightseeing, or stay after the program. Or maybe do it on my own.

3. I have some pesos from Mexico, can I use them in New Mexico

Since I like you Faina, I'll let the peso remark slide

Public transportation in ABQ leaves something to be desired. It is getting better with the new light rail, called the Rail Runner.

There are buses that will take folks from shopping centers to Balloon Fiesta Field. They leave from various parts of town at the crack of dawn [actually before] and it isn't a bad way to get there and avoid the hassle. Since the Rail Runner is new, not sure if they will have special trains at that hour. My concern would be how you would get from nearest station to Fiesta park.

Next question -- NM Expo [the state fair grounds] can be reached by bus via Central. It is not the nicest of areas.

If I knew where you were staying, I could be more specific.

You will not have a car, I take it. ABQ has buses but the rides will be long and may not be the most convenient [connections, waiting time etc].

The horse show is Oct 18 -27

That may solve one of your problems!
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hmmm... arabians will have to wait. My best bet would be with the group, the dates are Oct 6-13. To stay for another week... I'll talk Mr Again into playing stallion instead

Debi, didn't mean to insult you. I guess, I shouldn't even ask if a visa is needed?

Pencil in a GTG. I hope this year I'll make it.

Hey, do I see a GTG forming in Albuquerque or Santa Fe? You know what a difficult decision that would be for me to decide to go to NM!

p.s.

Another story about New Mexico. I was having a package shipped to me while in New Mexico and the girl kept telling me that "we do not ship to Mexico". Kept telling her it was New Mexico not Mexico. She said she didn't care if it was new or old but they did not ship to Mexico. Had to tell her it was our 47th state!! Idiot.
