A/C in Maui ? Needed?
We are going to Maui in June and just found out that our oceanfront unit (papakea) is without air - I would think a/c is a must in Hawaii but have never been there.
Could someone help with input?

Unless you are used to warm weather you may want a/c. Generally the trades are still blowing and you'll have a good breeze ocean front - but it could still be warm. Trades are a bit unpredictable, but generally don't die down until August/September for a few weeks. On the other hand, if you have a ceiling fan and can open the windows you'll be able to sleep to the sound of the ocean. It all depends on your comfort level - it isn't at all unusual not to have a/c here - we don't have it and do fine with fans.

My experience was in may and the trade winds were not blowing, it was pleasent 78 degrees. At night it got warm trying to sleep and i for one was glad to have a/c. Talked to others that stayed in a much more expensive hotel and they were not happy. So for me i would not take a chance on no a/c. nick

thanks for the input, i suppose there really is no right answer since much seems to depend on personal tolerance and the type of weather at a given moment.
i think we'll roll the dice and go without the a/c simply b/c we have a great rate for oceanfront.
