4 Days in Ft Lauderdale

This is my first time staying in FT Laud for more than a day. Any suggestions would be helpful for a nice but not over the top hotel within walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc. Looks like 'hotel row'is across A1A from the ft laud beach, and are the typical big hotel chains....although the W looks like it has a great rooftop bar with incredible views. Any thoughts on this area? What about The Pillars?? This trip is for my significant other and myself, both (young) middle age. We can always take Uber to get around if there is some distance to nightlife, etc. The intercoastal and marinas look amazing also,so I guess the first thing is to get the location narrowed down then pick the accomodations.Thank you for any help with this get away. We will be there during the week of Oct 1.

The Pillars is supposed to be really nice and though it is on the Intracoastal it is only a couple of blocks from the beach. Less expensive is The TropiRock hotel. Big, clean rooms and good prices.

Über was banned in Broward County so you'll have to cab it. The restaurants and bars on Las Olas Blvd. are quite popular and are not far from the beach area.

There is always Water Taxi for a fun trip.

Don't know if it's your cup of tea, but we loved Hollywood Beach, where there's a "broadwalk" along the ocean. Lot of bicyclists, runners, stollers, etc. make for an old-fashioned "by the sea" vibe. There were a few restaurants and shops, but not big developments.

We stayed in kind of a bungalow and took a short walk to catch the Intercoastal Waterway to the shops on Las Olas Boulevard, and after that took it to an area on the beach that had lots of restaurants and shops with more developed feel.

Each trip on the Intercoastal was different, with various commentary by the crew about the sites we were seeing. Be sure and take a jacket because it can get chilly on the water, especially at night.

Here's some info on the Hollywood Beach area:

I live on the beach in Fort Lauderdale and personally, unless you want to be right at the beach, I might choose to avoid the W, The Atlantic, etc., since it can be a very busy beach scene here.

You could consider staying at the Riverside which is within easy walking distance of everything on Las Olas including the art museum, the performing arts center, the various restaurants, etc.

Hard for me to recommend much since I don't know what is most important to you but enjoy your stay nonetheless.

Uber wasn't 'banned' here. They pulled out and the final vote to get them back will be October 13th.

I personally LOVE The W Hotel. Really cool pool.

The Riverside is an excellent hotel. I live just around the corner from it. The Las Olas area is quite beautiful.

You'll enjoy dining out at Yolo, 401, Louie Bossi, Roccos Tacos, JimmyVs, Royal Pig on Las Olas.

Just around the corner is the local area Himmarshee Village. Great dining there.

Beach Place down on the beach has fun restaurants and attractions.

Forgot to add, absolutely take the Water Taxi one day. It runs from about 9am to close to midnight.

Fort Lauderdale is a city to see from the water and not by land. The nighttime tour is especially stunning.

The Water Taxi is half transportation half tour.

If you want to be directly on the beach, you might consider Pelican Grand Beach Resort, one of the only hotels in Fort Laud directly on the sand. All the hotels along A1A's main strip are across the street from the beach. Pelican Grand is not that far -- just above Sunrise Blvd -- but you would have to take a taxi to local spots (or it's doable as a long walk, a little under a mile & a half to Sunrise). The resort itself is lovely with a nice relaxing Florda feel to it -- big verandah with rocking chairs, French doors & white beadboard in the rooms, etc. Also has a first-rate restaurant on the premises overlooking the beach.

The Marriott Harbor Beach is also not across the street from the beach. The Pelican Grand is not too far from my home; it has a nice "look" to it; just avert your eyes from the highrise condo next to it.
