21st Birthday NYC URGENT 3 weeks to plan

I want to head to nyc for my 21st birthday and I am at a lost of what to do. Typically I want to go clubbing and have a great time. I need help of finding a hotel to stay in and a nice selection of clubs to go two. I only have the weekend to work with since I couldn't get off of work so it's Friday night around 11 I will get to nyc and leave on Sunday. Please help. My budget is flexible but I don't want to break the bank so no more then $650 I would like to spend on a hotel so I can spend more at the clubs . Thank you

Clubbing in NYC can be an exercise in frustration. Granted there are a million clubs with every type of music and atmosphere that you could want. But - the truly trendy clubs (the ones you see mentioned in the tabloids - as well as those people - models, starlets, etc) are very difficult to get into. Often it's a very long wait on line and one can never get inside.

So - I would have a look at the web site of Time Out New York and pick out a variety of places you might be interested in - so you don't waste too much time trying to get in.

I can;t give details - this is my DDs age group - but I can tell you that the more beautifully and trendily you are dressed the better your chances of getting into the places you want.

Not sure what you mean by 11 pm Friday - if that's when you head out to clubs - that's fine - places dont even open until after 10 pm.

When will you be coming? From now through the end of the year is high season. And since most clubs are downtown I would cheek the discount sights for hotels in chelsea and soho to see if you can find any deals - assuming you are talking about $300 per night.

$300 per night is tough in NYC at this time of the year. Even the Pod Hotel is over $300 per night, and it's one of the cheaper options. If I were you, I'd try Priceline and see if anything pops up for $300. You could get lucky, but that's a very very busy weekend.

we found The Mansfield for that weekend for $275 per night - this was several weeks ago and it is uptown but you might check. HAPPY 21st!!!

I would urge you to reserve a hotel ASAP - the longer you wait the fewer the choices and the higher the prices.

Definitely check Priceline - but do understand that in NYC many rooms have one double bed with a max of 2 people.

Also - you don;t mention who else will be with you. Many hotels have regulations against a number of guests under the age of 21.

Got my hotel and flight booked yay!! Where is the best place to party at i know the clubs are hard to get in . So i am looking for like a rooftop bar scene. I am gonna be 21 but i feel like 30 am out of college so a more elegant fun atmosphere is what i am looking for. And also i nice restaurant the next day.

Rooftop bars are big in NYC, but that's a scene that I'm not very familiar with (and moreoever it ends shortly because of the seasons). TimeOut New York may be of some help, but I'm completely out of the loop on recommendations. I know the Gansevoort Hotel on Park Avenue has a popular rooftop bar, as does the Standard that straddles the Highline and the Gramercy Park Hotel.

For restaurant - what budget and what cuisines do you like?

If you want a rooftop bar rather than a club scene with music (in NYC dancing requires a special cabaret license - so anyplace with dancing - rather than just a guy with a piano is much rarer) you might look at the roof of the Ritz Carlton downtown which has great reviews. Expect about $25 each for drinks.

Ok gotcha i am in Houston so i forget its getting cold sometimes. Because i am getting to ny late on the friday i may end up going to a club since they may open later? Is it better to make reservations through club promoters? Budget for restaurant about $50 a person more or less . I like anything really not too picky. Thanks for all the replies i am making progress with little time.

Club promoters can't get you in anywhere - just the biggest older ones that anyone can get into. No reservations at clubs unless you are a "face - model" or a "name - starlet or other celeb" they want to be associated with. The trendy clubs don;t decide to let you in until see you and any companions and how you are dressed.

Bars will typically stay open until 2 am - but no dancing and little music.

For dancing you have to go to a club.

The Standard Hotel on the High Line has a rooftop bar that looks really cool. It's like Le Bain.

Cielo is supposed to be one of the best dance clubs. This is in the meatpacking district, so not real far from Le Bain.
