Finger Lakes Wine Country is beautiful. Lots of wineries, great restaurants and within in your driving distance. Mirbeau Spa in Skaneateles is great. www.mirbeau.com

Canada is not a bad drive. Montreal is beautiful and feels like a European city with great restaurants, shopping etc. Lowes Hotel Vogue is a great place to stay in Montreal.
Quebec City is only about a 2 hour drive from Montreal and has the old city, everyone speaks French. If you ski Mnt. Tremblant is 1.5 hours away from Montreal.

In November I would head south - not north - to have a chance of better weather and perhaps still leaves on the trees.

Why not have a look at Virginia - lots of pretty inns.
