Machu Picchu

I started out planning this trip with a tour company (which I never have done before) and have decided I would just plan it myself so here I am.

I can't find out how to buy tickets for Machu Picchu. We arrive in Cuzco on a Friday and we go to Machu Picchu on Monday. Can we just get our entrance fee tickets in Cuzco? Anyone know the fee? I plan on booking the train tickets as soon as I find out about the entrance fee tickets. Is there a better way to do this; i.e. find a company to book the train and entrance fee? Please help!!

If you go during high season then you would have to buy your mp tickets at least one month in advance. To purchase MP tickets go to http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/ and for train tickets go to www.perurail.com
If you have a hard time purchasing on line then have your hotel book them for you.

If you need help navigating the MP ticket website, the following website is helpful:

http://www.machupicchutickets.com/

You can also purchase Wayna Picchu tickets there as well. I assume the WP ticket includes the admission to MP. Remember, you also need to purchase bus tickets to MP from Aguas Calientes, which I understand you can purchase directly in Aguas Calientes.

There are only a limited number of trains which leave from Cuzco so remember to book those early as well. I just booked my tickets and then realized that my seats are not together for one of the legs. I have no idea why, and I am trying to fix that.

Anyone know if this is correct info. Train from Cusco-MP $304 for 2 on Vistadome and $95 for 2 for entrance fee to MP.

I want to know if this is the correct price because I have been in contact with a travel agent and I want to know the price if I book it vs what they will say the charge is.

The train price is what I paid. Not sure about the MP tickets but that sounds correct. I paid $113 for 2 WP tickets.

You can check train prices at www.Perurail.com

In fact you can also book your own tickets there.

I just booked both machu picchu and perurail tickets online two days back and it was very easy to say the least. Did not encounter any problems. Used a regular visa card from Chase and was automatically registered for visa verified service.

Our roundtrip train tickets on vistadome came to approx $230 for the two of us. Machu picchu was 47 and 56 for with and without HP (only I am climbing)

Hi There,
I just had an absolutely terrible time trying to book tickets to MP from the PERURAIL website. I kept getting a "Your Visa is Invalid" error message. I called my bank, my bank says everything is fine, that it doesn't even look like anyone attempted a charge. I try again, same message (even though my bank does the Visa validation program) this went on for a few days. We are traveling in May and trains were selling out by the hour or so it seemed. We got a few emails saying that someone would contact us within 24 hours but no one ever did. Finally, my husband called via SKYPE and made reservations, the next day we scanned and faxed over a form, our passports, and credit card info and now, whew! We have our ticket vouchers! Woot.. It was $76 each way per person for the Vista Dome service (other services were sold out). If you have problems on the website, I would save yourself stress and just call them! The glories of travel, see the adventure has already started!! Best of luck~

There was no need to panic. If you are going Cusco MP there are fewer trains to start with. There are many more trains to/from Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) and you can taxi back to Cusco from there. Probably more cheaply than the train trip for two people travelling together.
