How to visit Iguazu Falls, what to see/do in a day, and how?

I wish to visit Iguazu Falls, will be arriving IGU airport in the late afternoon, hoping to stay at the Sheraton, and will be there two nights. This leaves one full day for visiting Iguazu Falls.

1st: I assume it's easy to take a taxi to the Sheraton from IGU? I've read here on FT that it shouldn't be a problem, correct?

2nd: I'd like to see and do as much as possible in my one full day, what is recommended to see and do it all? I'd like to visit both sides, Brazil and the Argentina sides. Are there recommended tours? Do I pre-book such tours in advance? What should I not miss? I read some say it's best to see the Brazil side in the morning. If I stay at the Sheraton, how do I get to the Brazil side, and can I return to see the Argentina side? Basically, how can I see everything in a day?

All information is greatly appreciated, thanks!

You will be able to easily find a transfer from IGU to the Sheraton. The 20-mile trip should take about half an hour with border crossing formalities withstanding.

Best of luck,

I just returned from Iguazu. You could do the Argentine side from the Sheraton Hotel (because you are in the park already) in a day -- not everything, but certainly the highlights. I ran into someone visiting for the day from the Brazilian side. She said the ride was an hour, including the border crossing, so it sounded to me like you'd need half a day for that side, including transport. If you only have one full day, better to stick to the Argentine side and see it well.

You can start out early (the park opens at 8 a.m.), and head out to the train station to Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) first. Even early, there will be some early risers from outside the park that pick up the train at the entrance before it gets to you. That train fills up fast, so the earlier you go the better. Head up on the train first, take the walkway to Diablo, then train back and do the upper circuit. After lunch, you can do the lower circuit (a little longer and tougher because of the stairs) and the boat ride. You might have time to do St. Martin island too, but that would be pushing it unless you move fast and have lots of energy (we didn't do it, but I understand that walk has stairs too). You'll want to take water, although there are refreshment stands here and there. You also need sunscreen and insect repellant. Good shoes are a must, especially if it's raining (weather is great now), as the walkways get slippery when they are wet.

Transport by taxi from the airport to the Sheraton was 90 pesos each way, and available as soon as you pick up your baggage.

1) Taxi will not be a problem
2) With one day only, I agree with Leburta, stay on the Argentinean side only. There is enough to see there for a couple of days, but if you start early, move fast and don’t stop a lot (or too long) for pictures, you can do most of it.

Staying at the Sheraton will let you start before the crowds get into the park, but not before the park actually opens.

Also, if you are a US citizen, there is a visa requirement for travelling to Brazil, even for a day. I believe that visa costs $150. You might decide if that additional fee is worth a half day visit for you.
